I’m running for reelection to the County Board to continue my work on the board and Finance Committee. That work includes being prepared for every meeting, representing my constituents in an open and professional manner, evaluating annual budgets and passing responsible budgets that provide the services residents want but keep property taxes in check. I enjoy helping my constituents and will continue to work hard to represent all viewpoints.
The issues facing the county are some of the same issues facing our country. Costs of living are high and for the most part have increased faster than wages. Housing and the cost of homeownership remains a local challenge but it’s being addressed. I feel one of our biggest local issues is annual budgets and maintaining services provided by the county and city. This gets harder every year. Sometimes very tough financial decisions must be made. Take for example the school district budget and need for large referendum to address budget shortfalls. Lastly, we are very divided on many issues. Politically, many folks feel very strongly one way or another. These are non-partisan roles and I work hard to represent that way…non-partisan.
I work full-time in the private sector but have many years of service in the public sector (local government). I’ve serve on both the Appleton Common Council and Outagamie County Board. I first got elected to the City Council in 2008. I’m very involved in our community and care deeply about its current state and future outlook. I’ve built and maintain strong relationship with my colleagues and community leaders including the Mayor and County Executive but also department heads including Fire, Public Safety, Public Works, Finance, HR, Parks, IT, and others. My experience in local government includes numerous leadership positions including Council President several times and I am currently the OC Finance Committee Chairman.
I’m open to ideas for new services as long as it aligns with the vision and comprehensive plans and has a funding component (balanced budgets are important!). As for service reductions, generally speaking, I’m opposed to them and especially if there’s a direct impact on citizens/taxpaying residents. Of course, with budgets getting tighter and tighter every year, services need to be carefully evaluated and sometimes adjustments are warranted. Careful evaluation is the key. All impacts and information must be considered before any additions or reductions take place. I welcome all citizen input and involvement and enjoy discussing new ideas and creative measures.
