A School Board Member is an Elected Official who serves as the checks and balance to the educational leadership of the Superintendent. If staff/parents/students are not able to resolve an issue within the normal chain of command, they have the option to ask the School Board to intervene as the voice of the electorate at the table.
The public school funding formula in Wisconsin is complex and confusing. With little hope for the Legislatures in Madison to adequately fund public schools with tax payer money-schools have had to resort to other creative funding measures such as referendums, public charter schools and other creative fundraising options.
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has already developed a free and effective life skills curriculum to address hot topics such as bullying, vaping and digital citizenship. In short, the role is a collaborative one.
Keeping students safe is school is the #1 priority for every School Board and Administrative Team. The modern use of electronic scanners and the responsible use of SRO Officers can go a long way towards preventing violence in schools.
Parents/Guardians are the primary Teachers of their children and as such should have access and influence over curriculum decisions being purchased with their hard earned tax dollars.

A school board member’s role is to set a clear vision, ensure accountability, and keep students first. Priorities include student success, strong academics, safe schools, and strong financial stewardship. Greendale Schools rank in the top 9.7% statewide for achievement—we outperform 90.3% of districts. A key duty is hiring and supporting a high-quality Superintendent. I served on the board when we hired Dr. Kim Amidzich, and she has done a phenomenal job—I’m committed to continuing that momentum
As a Greendale School Board member for the past 9 years, I know strong schools require responsible, long-term funding. If I am reelected, I will continue to support transparent budgeting, careful planning, and listening to community priorities. We must be strong stewards of taxpayer dollars while protecting classroom learning, staff support, and student services. When referendums are needed, I believe in clear communication, accountability, and earning public trust through results.
Education and mental health professionals should play a key role in determining curriculum and school policies by providing expert guidance on child development, learning needs, and student well-being. As a school board member/educator (the past 36 years), I know firsthand their insight helps create age-appropriate, evidence-based instruction and supportive school practices. I support mental health funding because well-being impacts learning, behavior, attendance, and success for every student.
Safety is our number one priority. Greendale School District has taken steps to prevent and prepare for potential violence through secure entrances, safety drills, emergency response planning, and partnerships with local law enforcement/first responders. We continue to strengthen communication systems, support student mental health, and ensure staff are trained to recognize concerns. Preventing violence also means building a positive school climate where students feel safe/supported and heard.
Parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. They should have a meaningful role in curriculum through open communication, feedback, and partnership with educators. I support parent involvement via curriculum nights, advisory groups, and review opportunities that keep families informed and heard. While educators provide professional expertise and state standards guide instruction, parents help ensure curriculum reflects community values and supports student success for all learners.
