The Milwaukee County Board of SupervisorsThe Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors is the legislative body of the county and consists of eighteen supervisors, each representing one of eighteen supervisory districts in the county. The county board adopts an annual county budget, resolutions and local ordinances (laws). They also establish programs and public services for the county. I am running because I want to continue to be a bridge between the community and the policies made at the county level that impact our day-to-day lives. I view this service as an extension of my commitment to community as a community social worker and public health professionals. I want to make space for people to share their voices and have the resources they need to live their best lives.
I want every resident of Milwaukee’s south side – in fact, every resident of Wisconsin – regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, or immigration status, to feel safe and respected where they live, work, and play. To achieve this goal, the community's voice needs to be heard, they need to have the resources and services to succeed.
I will bring my public health experience to the county to give back to my community and help people to not just survive, but to thrive. I care about working families, families of color, immigrant families, and people who are doing their best, but come up short due to how American and Wisconsin systems of government, bureaucracy, and the economy are organized.
I would support restrictions to firearms and I believe funding preventative services to support the health and wellbeing of the community is essential to safety and violence prevention. If people have the resources they need to live with dignity, like behavioral health service, access to clean and safe parks, and transportation to family-sustaining jobs, the community can thrive.
Milwaukee County should be a key collaborator with the city in the Climate and Equity plan and the 10 Big ideas for Action, particularly areas where the County had a direct role and responsibility. The objectives of “People Centered Transportation & Urban Design” and “Nature in the City” fall directly in the purview of the Milwaukee County Board.
