Background: What would you like people to know about you?
Qualifications: What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
Responsibilities: How would you ensure that all individuals appearing before you, especially self-represented individuals, are treated fairly and with respect, and what steps would you take to ensure they understand the process?
Improvements: What changes, if any, are needed in court processes and procedures in your precinct to make the court more efficient and effective in fulfilling its duties?
I want the voters of PCT 5 Montgomery County to know that I have relevant experience in the PCT 5 courtroom. I am Texas-born and have lived and served in this precinct for 26 years. I have been a Constable for 21 years: School Officer, Civil Deputy, and Investigator. I am married to my wife of 25 years, one child and three grandchildren. I am on the board of TUFF, Texans United for Freedom.
I have about 9 years of relevant experience in the PCT 5 courtroom as a bailiff, overseeing bench trials, jury trials, arraignments, hearings, tax sales, orders of sale, evictions, and writs of execution. This is a people's court and needs a leader focused on them, not the position itself. This position requires integrity, consistency, and a firm but even temperament.
Every person appearing in this court will be treated with respect and fairness. Making information on processes and procedures available in writing or online accessible to all will assist in educating before and during an appearance. Each person is asked before any proceedings begin that they understand to confirm there is nothing unanswered (self-represented or not).
This court needs to have its technology updated and hours of service expanded to be more efficient and effective.
