I began my Indiana public service working alongside Congresswoman Julia Carson, helping constituents cut through red tape and get real answers from government. That experience taught me what leadership looks like when people are counting on you.

With the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Making Connections Indianapolis,I helped bring real investment into neighborhoods—building programs with families, not around them, and strengthening communities that had been ignored for too long.

I recently served at Center Township Trustee’s Office, where I helped launch new programs, strengthen homelessness services, and address communication gaps so residents knew where to turn for help. I’ve seen firsthand how a Trustee’s office can change lives.
The biggest issue is knowing that the trustee’s office exists. Too many residents do not know about—or cannot easily access—the help available to them.

When people are struggling with housing, utilities, or basic needs, delays and confusion can turn a short-term crisis into a long-term problem. As Trustee, I will simplify the application process, provide clear instructions, and improve communication so people know what is available and how to get it quickly.

Improving access starts with making the system easier to understand and easier to use. Right now, too many residents get stuck in the process or do not even know help is available.

I will offer walk-in hours, bring services directly into the community through a mobile office, and simplify applications so people can get help without unnecessary barriers. I will meet residents where they already are through schools, churches, and community organizations and build strong relationships with landlords and property managers to prevent crises before they happen.

Access also means making it physically easier to reach the office. I will advocate extending the bus line directly to the Trustee’s Office and improving signage at key intersections.
Budgets are tight so we must focus on what matters most—helping people when they need it. I will reduce delays, streamline processes, and make sure every dollar is used as needed.

I will also build strong partnerships with nonprofits, churches, businesses, and community organizations to expand our reach, to bring in additional resources. It is about doing more with what we have—while making sure help reaches the people who need it.
Pike Township needs a place of connection and a real sense of community and unity. Even if the trustee’s office can’t provide the needed help, our office needs to be seen as the starting point where people can be lead to the needed assistance. Partnerships are key.

Some of the greatest challenges the office faces is providing rental assistance to clients in need and addressing homelessness when clients are evicted. I plan to provide Career Compass Workshops and Financial Literacy Programs to clients and network with organizations in Pike Township that provide resources.
Career Compass Workshops and Financial Literacy Programs.
Challenges I expect to face in this role are multiple complex cases that come into the office and learning how to effectively manage the caseloads for efficiency. Useful approaches will include working with individuals and their cases and setting sustainable targets for clients.
I will use my role to positively influence the community by continuing to engage the residents in active listening. Provide town hall meetings, community forums, and social gatherings to hear directly from residents about their concerns and needs.

I plan to pay closer attention to existing community leaders, organizations, and resources to understand how they operate and where gaps might exist. I will use my role to continue to gain a deeper understanding of my community and see what efforts I may be able to resonate with people and address real needs.

Trustee role is to ensure residents of the township has access to funds when they find themselves in need of assistance for prescription medications, school uniforms, burial assistance, rental/mortgage assistance, and food vouchers. If the township has a fire department the trustee is to work along with the township board to ensure funding for the operation. My experience with budgets as an Area Manager overseeing a multi-million-dollar operation with over 600 hundred employees and as a Brooklyn Borough Manager (New York City Parks Department) budgeting for supplies, equipment, summer jobs employees and neighborhood parks, and working with the community makes me a top candidate. Today I own my own business.
As per the US Census the township is facing 25 percent poverty with our seniors and 17 percent with our youth. I plan to engage with community-based organizations to see how we can work together to address these issues. I believe we need to be intentional about our approach and face these issues head on. We need not pretend that we don't have these problems in our township. We must be more intentional with working with our schools and with our seniors providing community support. The township overall need to be more engaging and informative. More often than not the community is unaware the township is there to help.
Appoint a stronger community liaison to engage with the community. I am interested in starting an employment assistance program for families receiving public assistance. I plan to engage with Family and Social Services Administration Division Family Resources to see if we can work together to identify a half dozen families each year who receive public assistance and eligible to work for their public assistance. This type of opportunity would help a participate gain work experience and be marketable to getting gainful employment. This can of opportunity can lift families out of poverty.
Fighting against consolidation of the fight department and township government. I will continue to work hard to stop any consolidation and work alongside the other elected officials. In addition, get the community involved because community voices are essential to the movement.
I am a community-based person. I love working for and engaging the community. I have been doing this type of work for over 45 years. I have been advocating for what is right since my college days. I have always used my position of authority and power to do right for and by the community.
