Indiana Code (IC) -36-6 provides the statutory guidelines governing townships and the Trustees’ duties while IC-12-20 provides the guidelines for the provision of township assistance. In general terms, townships are responsible for providing fire protection and emergency medical services, township assistance, maintaining abandoned cemeteries, as well as providing constituent services. The Trustee is the Executive of township government. I’m a graduate of Decatur Central High School as well as Franklin College, having majored in Sociology. To better qualify myself as well as be in advance of state law that goes into effect in 2027, I’ve completed more than twenty-three hours of continuing education each of the past three years. Decatur Township (“Township”) is the smallest and least developed township in Marion County. It faces more and more demand for development. That results in service demands for the services that the Township provides always increasing. The challenge is two-fold: 1) Be prepared and proactive to meet these service demands; and 2) Ensuring that the Township can cover the costs of these services. For more than five years, we’ve, on an annual basis, made extensive effort to underspend the adopted budget and save those amounts. With the direct hiring of a Facilities Manager and an IT Manager, we’ve increased efficiencies and savings by providing those services “in-house” while implementing better planning to proactively address those needs.
We need to replace the government center/main fire station as the administration of the fire department and Trustee’s office have outgrown the government center. Additionally, the fire department has outgrown the fire station and the station itself is not equipped with the necessary up-to-date health and features required for today’s fire service. It is my goal to continue providing the Township’s and my services to support the residents of Decatur Township.

I’ll continue my involvement with, and support of, community organizations as well as continue to make the Township’s resources available to those organizations.
