The State Senate and House of Representatives are responsible for making or changing laws and passing a state budget. Sixty representatives serve in the House. The sizes of districts are based on the number of people living there. The Oregon Legislature meets for a long session in odd-numbered years and a short session in even-numbered years. To qualify as a candidate for the Oregon State House of Representatives, a person must be a U.S. citizen, a registered voter, a resident of the district for at least 1 year prior to the General Election, and age 21 or older. The salary is $35,052 plus a per-diem stipend.Term: 2 years. This is a partisan position.The League of Women Voters of Coos County conducted a candidate forum for this race on Wednesday, April 24. Public Safety: Respect and Support for our Law Enforcement Professionals.
Housing: I'm honored to serve on the Oregon Housing and Homeless Committee. We simply must change to a more Oregon business friendly environment which has to include our Builders and Developers. Land Use Restrictions updates. Less burdensome regulations. Boosts to communities. Bring down expensive costs of construction. I supported Governor Kotek's Housing Plans and Legislation both in 2023 and 2024. In 2023 I introduced and we passed HB1013 and we also passed 4 significant bills this short session, however we have much additional work - we have to be aggressive to solve Oregon's Home shortages. As a 6-year former County Commissioner, I did all possible to learn about Mental and Behavioral Health - in particular Drug Addictions. In the 2023 Session I supported the Bi-Partisan solution of re-criminalizing Hard Drug Use and Mandatory Treatment for those with addictions. I've also strongly promoted funding to help Counties, District Attorneys and Recovery Centers.
As with all major issues and problems facing Oregon - we still have a tremendous amount of work to do on Substance Use Disorders - good pressure to do all we can to stop people from dying in the streets. Further - we have to challenge and teach our children to never get started on Marijuana, Tobacco, Alcohol and all related. Thank you for this question... Court Boice
Wildfire Mitigation - my No. 1 issue. Of the 60 House Reps. I've been an 8-year Oregon leader in Fire Awareness, Prevention, Response, Suppression n Recovery. I'll keep working - unite all teams and Funding for our Fire Fighting success's - all Gov. levels. We must improve our Forests, Watersheds, Fish and Wildlife Habitat Managements. Improve our Burned Timber Salvage. Keep our Roads and Trails open. Oregon has the highest quality, fastest growing trees on the planet and we're allowing costly unnecessary incinerations. Everything that Catastrophic Fire touches becomes Fire. They are the greatest threat to our Public Safety. $500 Mill. has been spent in the last 30 years in my Curry County alone! We can do better!
