I believe every child within the Evansville/Vanderburgh County can receive an excellent academic, athletic, cultural, and social experience within the public school system. But I am concerned that there is not enough emphasis on the core subjects. Further, I would like to see a review of federal grants and any monies outside of taxpayer funds and the requirements tied to those monies. Finally, I want to bring more transparency to the school board, and for the members to be more accessible and approachable.
My background includes being a nurse, a co-owner of a specialty home health agency, and currently, a student myself.
English and Math scores are far below where they should be to give our children a sound foundation for college or vocational/technical school. Need to consider volunteers to tutor students in those subjects rather than gym class for now.
As I touched on in the first question, school governance is not transparent. There need to be policies instituted to allow the community more time to ask questions during school board meetings.
There is not enough information imparted in the PowerPoint listed online.

I feel my connections with teachers and support staff was a great benefit to all of us my 8 years serving on the board. Having been in the schools for 18 years as an SRO, I made a lot of connections, and those people feel safe talking to me. I am pro-union and have always been and always fought for all unions to be recognized. I was the one who brought the free clinic opportunity to the EVSC. I was never one of the 100% "on board" with what ever the administration wanted to do. I feel i work for the people not the administration.
I have dedicated my life to helping people, and would like to continue serving the public in the capacity as a School Board Trustee. I have no agenda, I am going to do whats best for the students and staff always. I can be trusted to do what I say I'm going to do, which I have proven over the past 8 years on the board. Having been in the schools for 18 years I have areal understanding of what actually goes on.
I would like to see more teacher input on how they do their job. A teachers individualism as been suffocated and needs to be revived. Mental health issues are way under served currently. We need at least double the amount of social workers that we currently have. We need a stronger emphasis on the core subjeects. Kids these days are lacking the esential life skills need to function post graduation. That needs to be fixed.
I believe any material that can be legally obtained should be made available upon request. If a request is made the EVSC should produce the documents in a timely manner.
I have not seen the current budget. I do know from past years the EVSC does not receive suffeciant funds from the state.
