Warrick County Sheriff

The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for the county. The sheriff oversees the county’s law enforcement department, including deputies and administrative support. County sheriffs typically enforce the law in unincorporated areas within a county, but they also will sometimes provide law enforcement services to municipalities that do not have their own police departments. County sheriffs oversee county jails. They are sometimes called upon to serve subpoenas, protection orders, and eviction notices.

What are your top two priorities as sheriff if you are (re)elected?

How should county policing respond to social and racial disparities and mental health status when serving the public?

Are there measures you could take as Sheriff to decrease gun violence (homicides, suicides) in the county?

1. To provide Safety and security of all citizens and to those that visit.

Faithfully uphold, support, and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of Indiana, fairly and equally execute the laws of the State of Indiana.
2. Our response will be within the guidelines provided by federal and state statutes while demonstrating empathy, care and compassion for those we encounter and to provide support and resources if needed.
3. Support an increase in education for gun owners in the proper handling, safety and storage of guns. In addition to support education for our youth on the dangers of guns.
The focus of my administration will be wellness of our employees and collaboration with our public safety partners and the community.

The overall well-being of our employees will help them better serve the public. Physical, mental, spiritual, financial, and family life all factor into the performance of our employees. The better we support them, the more efficient and effective we can be in serving the public.

Collaboration with the other first responders in our community will increase efficiency and effectiveness. Through mutual training and regular visits with the leaders of our partner agencies and elected officials, l will maintain open lines of communication and preparedness for better response to situations as they arise.
Under my leadership, the Sheriff’s Office will serve the public faithfully and impartially, regardless of their social, racial, or mental health status. Every person is a human being and will be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
I plan to bolster our relationship with the local crisis hotline to offer services to people in crisis who don’t need law enforcement intervention. Drug abuse is often tied to depression, suicide, and violent criminal acts. I plan to implement prevention programs, coupled with aggressive, skilled enforcement and jail-based recovery programs, to reduce both the likelihood of these incidents and recidivism.

I will increase aggressive investigation and enforcement of crimes of violence and other offenses that contribute to an increased risk of violence by maintaining a robust investigations unit as well as deputies specially trained in criminal interdiction and enforcement, who will target known threats to protect our community.
