Biographical Information

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Is there a question you wish we had asked? If so, what is the question and how would you answer it?

Qualifications I moved to DC in 1997 after graduate school where I focused on urban economics and security issues. I moved to 42nd Street with my husband in 2005. We have three children who attended local public schools. I am a self-employed college coach and photographer. I am also very active in many aspects of neighborhood issues as well as my children’s school communities. I previously worked as a Senior Advisor, Deputy Executive Director, and Comptroller (in that order) at the Bureau of Consular Affairs at the US Department of State (DoS). Prior to working at DoS, I worked as a Senior Examiner at OMB in International Affairs on Counterterror issues.
I will work diligently to address several key existing issues in the ANC 3E-06 area including: traffic and safety;the need for more walkable/bike-able public school opportunities in the area to relieve overcrowding at Janney, Deal and Jackson Reed; the need for more opportunities for elder community members who are aging-in-place;  rallying support against city zoning changes that could negatively impact all residents of ANC 3E-06 including rezoning residential properties for private school, commercial or large scale high-end development uses;advocating strongly for changes to DC Office of Planning and BZA processes to make them transparent and include early community notice and involvement opportunities. The current planning and zoning processes reduce, and at times, completely eliminate, the opportunity for the community to address its growing needs;encouraging the City Council and Mayor’s office to develop incentives for small businesses, including minority and womenowned businesses
My goals as an ANC commissioner for 3E-06 are to: Be accessible to community members; Proactively advocate for all of our ANC 3E-06 residents and community members; Encourage, persuade and when possible, partner with, the City Council and the Mayor’s Office as well as local non-profits to be more strategic, thoughtful, transparent and inclusive about all planning; Keep an open mind, be responsive, and respectfully represent the opinions and needs of ANC 3E-06 residents and DC to the best of my ability.
