The West Volusia Hospital Authority should prioritize budgets that directly strengthen access to care, focusing on primary, preventive, and timely services that reduce avoidable ER use and hospital admissions. Decisions must be based on clear evidence of community need and address gaps across neighborhoods. Transparent, publicly available criteria and strong accountability, through performance standards, audits, and reporting, ensure responsible use of funds. The WVHA should require measurable performance standards tied to service volume, quality and safety benchmarks, and responsible financial stewardship. Community input should guide priorities, and core programs must be fully supported before new initiatives are implemented.
The WVHA’s two biggest challenges are ensuring equitable access to care and strengthening transparency and accountability. Many uninsured and underinsured residents still face barriers to primary, preventive, and chronic care, leading to worse health and higher ER/hospital usage. WVHA should fund programs that expand access, support program providers, and close geographic gaps. WVHA must also improve transparency by using clear, published criteria, data‑driven evaluations, public reporting, audits, and performance standards. Focusing on access and accountability ensures public funds truly benefit the community.
I envision a WVHA that protects and strengthens the core programs that are essential to the health of West Volusia. Before launching new initiatives, the WVHA must ensure that current programs are stable, effective, and fully supported. Over the next five years, the focus should be on building a sustainable, data driven system that improves outcomes, reduces disparities, and uses public resources responsibly. Meeting information should be shared on the WVHA’s website, and social media platform in addition to the required public notices required by law. I envision hosting meetings in each community the WVHA serves on a rotating basis to allow those within West Volusia access to attend and voice opportunities and share success stories.
I am the ideal WVHA candidate because my career has focused on advocating for patients, expanding access to care, and improving outcomes for vulnerable residents. With nearly three decades of clinical and leadership experience, I bring firsthand experience caring for patients across the continuum, from the moment of crisis to long term management of chronic conditions. I understand the barriers people face when trying to access care, and I have spent my career working to remove those barriers through education, advocacy, and system level improvements. My combination of clinical expertise, leadership experience, personal perspective, and commitment to equity makes me uniquely qualified to serve effectively and responsibly.
