The two major issues facing the City of Edgewater are managing growth and addressing flooding concerns. Over the past several years, we have taken meaningful steps to control overdevelopment in our community by strengthening our development codes and regulations, implementing a building moratorium, and denying several large subdivision proposals. Throughout my time in office, I have never voted in favor of a major subdivision PUD.
Our flooding challenges are largely the result of irresponsible development practices and years of deferred infrastructure maintenance spanning nearly two decades. We are working to make up for lost time and invest in long-overdue solutions.

My priorities this year and in the years ahead in our budget will include ensuring that we have the local matching funds necessary to secure essential grants that support critical infrastructure projects throughout our city. To date, our city has secured more than $36 million in grant funding, and I remain committed to continuing that momentum to invest in Edgewater’s future.
Another top priority of mine is making sure our public safety officers in the City of Edgewater are supported, protected, and equipped with the resources they need to serve our community safely and effectively. Taking care of those who protect and serve our residents will continue to remain one of my highest priorities.
I think that the City Of Edgewater was the most affected community in all of the state of Florida. We were one of the only municipalities in the country that had a building moratorium due to our flooding concerns. SB 180 wiped out that building moratorium. We also were halfway through updating our comp amendment plan and SB 180 wiped out our ability to enforce and implement that plan. We are now limited to codes and regulations that we need to change in our community. We must have to get voting organizations involved along with each municipalities across the state utilizing the Florida league of cities who could’ve been involved a little bit more in the process.
I am fortunate to have built strong relationships with elected officials across the country. Many communities have already faced and overcome the same challenges that we are currently navigating in our own community. Those relationships allow me to seek guidance, learn from their experiences, and understand the strategies their municipalities used to successfully address similar issues.
I strongly believe in collaboration. Elected officials and mayors from surrounding communities meet regularly—approximately once each month—to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and work toward shared solutions. We should also continue utilizing the resources available through the Florida League of cities. Our residents priorities always come first.
The City of Edgewater recently received our updated Stormwater Master Plan. This plan provides a clear roadmap outlining the projects and improvements needed to help alleviate flooding throughout our community.
In addition, all new developments will now be evaluated through the stormwater model to better understand and measure their impact on surrounding areas and overall stormwater capacity before moving forward.
Securing full funding for this plan will be one of my top priorities in my second term. I will continue working to pursue grant opportunities and federal funding to ensure these critical infrastructure improvements become a reality and provide long-term flood mitigation for our community.
The City of Edgewater is currently in the construction phase of redirecting our reclaimed wastewater discharge away from the Indian River Lagoon and into a wetland park system. This project will help improve water quality and support a healthier, more resilient lagoon ecosystem for future generations.
The City of Edgewater has also worked closely with outstanding local partners, including Riverside Conservancy and the Marine Discovery Center, to advance environmental initiatives and support water quality improvement projects throughout our community. These partnerships play an important role in protecting our natural resources and ensuring meaningful environmental progress for our residents.
