The Tallahassee City Commission consists of a mayor and four commissioners elected at-large for four-year, overlapping terms. The city provides police, parks & recreation, pubic works, code enforcement, and animal control services. The city operates a public transit system, an airport, and a fire department. Additionally, the city owns and operates six utilities. Our city doesn’t have to choose between responsible growth and protecting the neighborhoods and natural resources that make our city special. As city commissioner, I will ensure new development respects our tree canopy, protects our waterways, and fits the character of existing neighborhoods. I will bring together residents, developers, and environmental advocates to the table early so we can solve problems before projects move forward. If the development does not meet the right standards, the city should have every right to clawback our assets.
When I was on active duty, before you could even start discussions about the budget you needed a full audit. As a city commissioner, I will push for a full audit to ensure that we have a full picture of our financial standing in the city. From there, I will prioritize cutting housing and utility costs for our residents, investing in a comprehensive crime prevention plan, and expanding partnerships that improve healthcare access.
Our residents expect results, not political fights. As an army veteran, respect is one of our core values and I live my life as being someone who shows love and respect to others. I'll focus on respectful relationships built on communication, transparency, and shared goals.
I believe that crime, especially violent crime, is a public health issue that must be addressed at the root. We can not afford to continue to address symptoms while avoiding the underlying sources of our crime issues. To this end, I want to bring together all stakeholders and develop a city-wide comprehensive violence prevention plan. This would allow us to bring together experts and stakeholders to identify the best course of action to address the real issues impacting our community.

Stop voluntary annexations of acres of undeveloped property of large landowners that create urban sprawl and require the City to extend urban services with today's tax dollars for future development; rather than investing in needs inside current City limits. It would also preserve natural resources and animal habitats for decades until there is a need to expand the urban service area. The City should also protect all residents' private property rights by protecting residential preservation zoning from commercial rezoning.
The City would first have to do a real budget workshop requiring each department to do a SWAT analysis identifying essential and optional expenses, areas for recommended cuts without cuts to staff or major services. The Commission would then review recommendations based on community priorities before holding a public hearing, after providing public access to proposed budget recommendations. Poverty reduction, public safety (Fire and Police), affordable housing, and promoting a strong economy should be among the top priorities.
Electing experienced leadership and putting the needs of all residents first. I have decided the time has come for a single consolidated Tallahassee/ Leon County government that residents can hold accountable for delivering the services residents need without conflicts on fire services, housing needs, crime, and comprehensive planning.
I would support a return to real community policing that assigns police to impacted neighborhoods_ building trusting relationships with residents, much like school resource officers; and outposted police stations in highest crime areas. There should be a priority placed on creating a CHSP category for youth crime prevention, as well as a return to a set aside from police forfeiture funds for innovative programs at City Community Centers and parks that engage our youth from high crime areas in wholesome activities.
