I have 15 years of law enforcement experience, I was a general instructor, taser instructor, Alice active shooter instructor, D.A.R.E instructor, field training officer. I reach the rank of Sergeant. Im a certified law enforcement officer with the State of New Mexico.
Rebuild the working relationship with the surrounding agencies, having agencies work together has huge benefits for the community, encourage Deputies to be a part of their community, volunteer in the areas they live, volunteer during the summer for youth programs, clubs, sports ect.
Jurisdiction on tribal land.
I have talked with tribal leaders about being cross commissioned so we can help on tribal lands. McKinley has huge areas of tribal land, and in some cases emergency response is required and tribal police have to travel great distances to arrive on scene. In those cases we can arrive and make the scene safe and standby for tribal officers to arrive because of the limited amount of jurisdiction we would have.
Mental health is a massive issue in this area. Through personal experience I would like to have all Deputies go through as many mental health training as possible. I would like the staff to understand whats happening and how the person feels, to understand who it actually effects the person behavior and demeanor. I had several traumatic events during the end of career, and it effected me and my home life. I felt my command staff failed me when I started to unravel. I want Deputies to learn how to be empathetic when it comes to dealing with persons with mental health issues, I want them to be empathetic to everyone they come across.
