My experience as a contracts and collections manager has taught me the value of gathering facts, negotiating agreements, and patience. These skills will enable me to navigate complex issues and find solutions that benefit our students and community effectively.
Retaining teachers ensures continuity, augmenting support staff addresses longstanding community concerns, and additional funding to support these priorities. I will encourage my colleagues to hold the Superintendent responsible for developing a plan to retain teachers and identify and implement equitable resources to support student achievement. I would support an annual Superintendent budget that is developed to achieve these priorities.
Every student should have access to the resources and opportunities outlined in the Blueprint for Maryland's Future to fulfill its promise of improving education statewide. However, the State of Maryland should ensure that the counties receive the necessary funding for its implementation. I will support my state legislators in ensuring this mandate is fully funded for our district.
The issues of school safety and student well-being demands a comprehensive strategy that encompasses various aspects. Schools should ensure the code of conduct is being enforced with fidelity; foster a supportive and inclusive school culture through initiatives like peer support programs, mental health counseling services, and anti-bullying campaigns; and, work with School Safety Liaisons to make sure robust security measures are in place.
The school board can advocate for investing in our educators and providing them with the resources they need to create a more stable and fulfilling work environment that encourages them to stay within our school system. I will work with other board members to hold the Superintendent accountable for developing a plan to retain teachers and support staff.
I am involved and interact with diverse community members through various groups and organizations to which I belong. Adding the school community, events, and activities will be an excellent addition to help me form and forge new relationships and collaborations.
Maryland Educational COMAR 13A.01.06 states: "Each Maryland public school will provide every student equitable access to the educational rigor, resources, and supports that are designed to maximize the student's academic success and social/emotional well-being." I fully support this law.
School librarians have a Masters degree and are teacher certified and carefully build their collection to reflect curricular needs and their school's population. I trust the work and professionalism of school librarians. Any parent who is concerned about a book has the opportunity to speak with their school's librarian and principal.
Non-partisan school board races promote collaboration and prioritize the needs of the students above political agendas. Nonpartisan school boards are designed to remove conflicts that prevent its members from doing their job and members can focus on developing policies and initiatives that benefit all students. Fundamentally, students deserve a board member who strives to provide a loving, safe, and enriching learning environment.

As a leader at my company and seasoned career consultant, I have dedicated my life to solving complex problems in a variety of industries. Managing a school system entails navigating a myriad of complexities, particularly since it’s taxpayer funded. Our Board of Ed needs someone with fiscal acumen, great communication skills, and a desire for transparency – all of which I have. As a mother, I am able to keep focus on the primary beneficiary of the system we hope to improve— the children!
My three priorities are excellence in education, safety for staff and students, and transparency in all parts of the school system (budget, curriculum, policy and operations, etc).
I am extremely concerned about the Blueprint as a taxpayer and as a Board Member. I believe the Blueprint is well intended however not fully funded by the state which will cause hardship on Calvert families with inevitable tax increases. We are already seeing unfunded expenses from the Blueprint. Other concerns are physical space limitations for pre-k, and classroom time limitations for teachers which will lead to increase staffing by over 50% or double student to teacher ratios, to name a few
We need to begin by enforcing the current code of conduct. We need an SRO assigned to every school in the county, ensuring a dedicated presence for maintaining discipline and safety. Additionally, we need to include families significantly more in the behaviors of their children and its consequences within the school environment.
In order to retain our dedicated staff the school board needs to establish policies that prioritizes a safe, respectful, and productive environment. Our budget needs to ensure our staff are compensated appropriately and every dollar spent fosters an environment of educational excellence. Lastly the Board needs to ensure staff are included in the feedback loop and decision making processes when it comes school operations, ensuring their valuable insights are considered.
The school board must prioritize transparent and comprehensive communication strategies within its policies and management practices. It is imperative to engage families more intimately in educational decision-making processes while eliminating any barriers to access. We need to reconsider when and how we communicate and the feedback mechanisms being used. 3:30 meetings are inconvenient, board docs isn't the best way to share information, and public comment isn't alway effective.
As a school system, our primary goal should be to achieve educational excellence. This entails recruiting and retaining the most qualified staff members for CCPS and ensuring that every student is challenged to reach their individual peak of excellence. Moreover, we must prioritize equality of access, striving to eliminate any obstacles that hinder students from realizing their full potential and succeeding academically.
I firmly oppose the practice of book banning in libraries. My commitment lies in ensuring educational materials have high age-appropriate literary value. I advocate for recognizing the family as the primary authority in determining what is suitable for their child. I will advocate for policies that uphold parental rights to protect their childs innocence by ensuring sexually explicit materials are not available to minor children without parental consent.
As a board, our foremost priority must be the well-being and success of each child. My perspective centers on fostering educational excellence within a safe environment, while promoting active parental engagement. As a candidate, I am committed to serving our diverse community with fairness, emphasizing the importance of adopting a nonpartisan approach to policy-making. Just as classrooms should remain politically neutral, school board races should ensure that the focus remains on the students.

I served 6 years on the Board of Education, and 4 years as a County Commissioner. I have many years of experience with budgets. I also have always supported all teachers and staff, When I was first elected to the BOE, teachers and staff were 5 steps behind. I made the commitment and was able to get all those back steps restored. I was also able to get the county commissioners to match 2 million in funding for school security adding a total of 4 million to keep our staff and kids safe,
School Safety, making sure each school has its own safety resource officer. Committed to making sure our teacher’s and staff are properly compensated so we can retain and hire the best teacher's and staff available. Bringing a level minded approach to the Board of Education. Politics have divided our school system and our kids and grandkids are being lost in this mess. Teachers do not feel appreciated and unruly students are causing problems in the classrooms. I will set better policies.

My biggest concerning is not know where the funding will come from. I like that the starting salaries will go up for new teachers, but not knowing all the specifics, it will be tough to plan for the future.
Unruly students must be dealt with. Teachers, staff, and the rest of the class should not have to deal with this. School safety will always be my top priority. I also want perimeter fencing around many of the schools and direct site to windows to classrooms limited. I will take all precautions necessary.
Offer competitive salaries, but most important is to make them feel appreciative. Sometimes its just the little things, but not insulting them during negotiations. Not trying to make them work more without being compensated. Teachers leave a lifetime impact on students. I support them 1– percent!
I will never limit public comments at meetings. I have always attended community events. In my 6 years on the BOE, I never missed a meeting or a graduation. I had the honor of handing diplomas to kids of parents I grew up with. It’s a true honor to be on the BOE. I love to be engaged in the community.
I believe everyone should be treated equal and fairly. I believe the most qualified person should be hired. I believe any person should never have to deal with any form of harassment. DEI training for all employees is very important. Our staff should be working in a safe environment at all times.
I believe it is a parents right to approve what their kids are reading. If you go to the movies and you are underage, those movies are rated. If books have explicit material in them, then they should be rated and a parent must approve for their child to read that book.
Nobody running brings a more non partisan approach than myself. I can reach across the line to make sensible decisions. Nobody controls me, and I make the best decisions I can on my own. In my 6 years on The BOE, Politics never played a role.
