Thank you for your question! For the greater part of three decades, I have been in the service of our great Nation and its communities. Either as a member of the Armed Forces or as a Police Officer. And I currently (still) serve as Program Manager for the United States Navy. It has long been my belief that, to serve in the Federal (Representative) position, one must have a grasp of the programmatic/contracts processes required for (District) provisions. And I am proud to say that I have such!
Thank you for your question! Protecting our voter rights begins with sound and enforced Legislation. It is my belief (and would be my pursuit) that we seek a National baseline electoral process and execution. Especially when electing our Federal (Reps and Senators) and Presidents. This legislation would include a (stronger) protective presence for in-person voters, an enhanced Cyber Security infrastructure for our voting machines, and a more accommodating environment for our Legacy voters.
Thank you for your question! The Environment has, long, been a volatile point of debate in our Country. And, sadly, many answers and/or solutions are centered around or affected by costs. I would continue to push for clean energy, with the understanding that (infrastructurally) some States simply aren't ready for full compliance. We would have to Legislate aid for these states, NOT scrutiny. I would also push to reward and incentivize the States that are compliant with environmental betterment.
Thank you for your question! Unfortunately, this is a much tougher fix than many are willing to admit! Truth is, we are Nation founded on immigration & owe much of this Country's growth to immigrants. That said, we are in crisis right now. And we simply can't (infrastructurally) support the huge influx pouring through our boarders. So our solution MUST begin with closing them. For those who are here and honestly working and contributing to our economy, we have to harness their abilities as well.
As a former Policeman and (current) gun owner, I can speak honestly, when I say that we will never reduce or solve the number of guns in our Country. There's more firearms (estimated) in the U.S. than people. So the focus has to be on legislation a harsher punishments for those who misuse or commit crimes while using firearms. I would push for harsher penalties & increased mandatory minimums. I would also fight for a Nationwide baseline on background checks & penalties for non-compliant vendors.

Public service is my life’s passion. I have had the honor of serving local communities, national communities, and everything in between for decades. Since I returned to Congress in 2020, I have zealously represented Maryland’s 7th Congressional District through a global pandemic and in its wake. I feel very prepared to continue serving the People in Congress - based on my most recent experiences as a member of Congress, service as national NAACP president, and former service in Congress.
John Lewis, the former congressman and noted civil rights activist, and I came to Congress together in the 100th Congress. I am proud to cosponsor the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which encompasses many of the voting rights protections and election security measures our nation needs. Specific actions the United State government should take include restoring and strengthening the Voting Rights Act of 1965, ending the Citizens United, and expanding vote by mail options.
I have worked hard in Congress to be a leader in the effort to invest in a green economy, grow electric vehicle adoption, reduce carbon emissions, protect the Chesapeake Bay, and hold polluters accountable. This work includes helping to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, keeping out of state pollutants from being discarded in Maryland, helping to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, funding environmental justice initiatives, and more.
America is a country of immigrants. Humane immigration policies are required at our borders so that we will not have to relive the border tragedies of the prior administration, e.g., permanently tearing children away from their parents or immediately criminalizing humans at our borders. I support working to create a well-reasoned and verifiable pathway to citizenship through the legislative process.
There are too many guns in the hands of too many people who should not have them. I support an assault weapons ban and have introduced legislation to curb the gun violence epidemic that plagues our nation, including legislation to combat the mass shooting epidemic with the Identifying Mass Shooters Act and legislation to curb the proliferation of online access to bullets and other ammunition with the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act.
