I was an orphan in Greece, adopted by my parents when I was two, and later raised by a single mom. I'm the first in my family to go to college (Harvard) and then Yale Law School. I know the hardships many families face. I've practiced law in federal courts; before US regulators; and in Congress, State Dept., and UN. I have traveled to more than 50 countries and helped promote economic development overseas. As a small businessperson, I want to promote jobs and economic growth in Maryland.
I have helped Democratic candidates for decades, have witnessed voter suppression, and have done voter protection in Virginia in several elections. The Supreme Court has cut back the Voting Rights Act, but Congress can insist that violations are punished. It can hold hearings on voter suppression or discrimination and support DOJ enforcement. It can boost funding to fight election interference from foreign countries and explore ways to hold election deniers and their attorneys accountable.
Setting targets for private industry is effective and fosters new technologies. Many new green technologies exist, with more on the way, to provide sustainable, green energy. I support protecting US companies from cheap imports that undermine U.S. technology and innovation. I also support basic research into toxins and other contaminants that can cause cancer and other health threats. Finally, I support fair global agreements that include carrots and sticks to meet measurable targets.
I am an immigrant, as are my wife, sister, and almost all my in-laws. I have worked with refugees in Asia and Africa. But our borders are overwhelmed. I would urge the Administration to do as much as it can through Executive Orders, vote for the Senate bill, and then continue to advocate for the Dream Act. We also need new approaches to our policies in Central and Latin America, where insecurity, drug violence, and poverty are pushing people to seek safety and economic security in the US.
In 2024, there have been 49 mass shootings, almost 5,000 deaths, and 3,351 injured from firearms. While gun owners have Second Amendment rights, we cannot allow these massacres to continue. I support banning ghost guns, cop killer ammunition, and large magazines for assault rifles. I support strong background checks, and I will closely scrutinize the Supreme Court's ruling on bump stocks. I also support smart gun technology to neutralize stolen guns and protect children in gun households.

Representatives must recognize complex problems and all variables causing them, and create legislation leading to efficient and effective solutions. I’ve been doing that for over half a century as a seasoned STEM professional. My training and career assignments have prepared me to create and assess legislation related to climate catastrophe, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and other areas. I have worked for several Federal Agencies as a civilian and a contractor.
The best way to protect voting rights is to pass a Constitutional Amendment. There have been several proposed, which Congress should review, debate, and pass. The Supreme Court has been too ready to erode voting rights created by legislation in the past. Ensuring free and fair elections is a state, not a Federal function. Still, Congress has and should continue to commit funds to protect voting infrastructure, training, and security for election administrators and volunteers.
At a December 2017 hearing, I asked the Maryland Department of Environment not to grant the permits required to build new pipelines through the state and cross the Potomac River near Hancock. I suggested that if the permits were granted, they should be accompanied by a requirement for the builders and users of the pipeline to escrow twice the cost of restoring the local environment and residents' health in case of any future leaks. Also, the escrow account should be replenished after any leak.
As an immigrant myself, I experienced a more compassionate system, that allowed us fair entry into the US, non-discrimination, a path to citizenship after just five years, reasonable health care, a free education through high school, and an almost free public college education. As one of my campaign slogans states, “Make America GOOD again. This time for ALL of US”©. Unless there are valid reasons to detain an immigrant, the $208/day cost is better used for providing such humane services.
Shortly after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS in Parkland, Florida, I substituted for a Clarksburg High School math teacher. On that day Clarksburg students held an “Am I Next" rally and told us assembled their feelings about the lack of gun safety in our country. My conclusion of their requests was a reasonable position to take - guns and rifles have their place when hunting or securing life and property, but weapons of war have no place in the hands of the general public.

I am a Democrat, veteran, physician trained in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, and family man. I served honorably for 25 years in the U.S. Army, including completing three overseas deployments, and was awarded the Bronze Star and Comat Action Badge. Climate change is undeniable. We can no longer allow politicians beholden to the fossil fuel industry to hinder our progression towards renewable energy. Contingent upon being manufactured in the United States, I support federal incentives for home solar systems, plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. We must include provisions for transition from environmentally harmful industries to more environmentally friendly product lines in a way that avoids loss of jobs or economic decline.
A fair immigration policy is one that recognizes the immense contributions immigrants have made and continue to make to our society. It is a system that should extend compassion to those seeking refuge and opportunity, while being efficient in its processes. We must streamline our pathways to legal immigration, ensuring that those who come in search of the American dream can do so legally, safely and without years of bureaucratic obstacles.
I will vote for common sense gun safety legislation that protects our children, our families and our neighborhoods. I support universal background checks. I also support the authority of the judiciary to restrict weapons access to violent offenders, persons on bond, persons who are violently unwell and persons who are under a peace order for domestic violence. I agree with VoteVets' stance on a ban on the manufacture and sale of assault weapons. Weapons of war don't belong in our neighborhoods.

I’m a proven lawmaker with a track record of bipartisan success and a working mom who knows the challenges families face. Having been deprived of nature in my childhood, I know the significance of both restoring green spaces and protecting the plants, animals, and land that surround us.
A 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050. We must have an equitable and just transition away from fossil fuel dependency, help homeowners cut energy costs while reducing carbon footprint with retrofit programs, and much more.
This should all be done for the people, not limited by corporate interests.
Immigration courts and the immigration system generally do not treat people who want to live here, especially asylum seekers with nowhere else to go, as human beings. I will work towards relieving the inhumane conditions at the border, and ensuring that everyone in the immigration process has a lawyer when they have their day in court.
We must have comprehensive immigration reform including an accessible, simply path to citizenship. We are a country built on immigrants and dreamers.
As a person intimately affected by gun violence, I understand the importance of common sense measures like universal background checks that reduce the chance of firearms getting into the wrong hands while protecting the rights of responsible owners. I support closing dangerous loopholes that allow people to circumvent proper checks as well as those that allow abusive partners with restraining orders access to firearms. The climate crisis poses an existential threat to our planet's future and demands urgent action. We must reduce our carbon footprint so we can slow down the rates of rising global temperatures. I'm familiar with the US government as I'm a retired scientist at the US Department of Energy. I enjoy government work and as a retired senior citizen, I am not beholden to nor have any interest in private lobbyists.
We should be able to vote by any means, including by cell phones. That would raise voter turnout up to 90%+ instead of the current 40%-60%. More direct democracy, using a process called sortition, where you have an empaneled jury instead of politicians creating laws. This can be done on an issue-by-issue basis.
It should be easier to remove politicians. Impeachment used to happen all the time, now its seen as grave.
Also, hold a constitutional convention every decade and full court reform
The largest causes of greenhouse gases in the US are power plants and cars. All coal & gas power plants should be replaced by non-carbon power like nuclear, solar, and wind. Building a high speed rail network and expanding public transport everywhere will also cut emissions. I'd immediately build a 30 minute high speed rail line with 5 stops: Hagerstown -> Frederick -> Gaithersburg -> Bethesda -> DC. Those are all very expensive projects, but can and should be done, and will create jobs.
We need a lot more immigration into the United States, both skilled and unskilled. Right now we have record low unemployment. It's actually a huge cause of inflation, as employers can't find workers, so they have to raise wages. That's great for those specific workers, not not good for everyone else, especially poor & elderly. I would propose a massive increase in work visas as well as reducing immigration delays. This will also increase demand throughout the economy, including construction.
Gun owners should be required to get an employer sponsored secret or top-secret clearance, the same kind of clearance you need for classified government work. This goes above and beyond a simple background checks. Bullet themselves should have serial numbers on them, with information on supply chain. Require cameras, GPS tracking & liability insurance for guns.

Immigrants to this country add to the cultural color and texture of our country. Diversity not only makes us stronger, but it is our history.
Guns is indicative of a concern for public health and safety. Proposing solutions in these areas involves complex considerations of law enforcement, public health policy, and community-based strategies. Also, law enforcement needs more training on how to recognize and deal with gun related issues such as family violence. Guns are too readily available to people who are not stable and responsible.
