Congress has the responsibility to protect the voting rights of all Americans. As a cosponsor of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R.14) and the Freedom to Vote Act (H.R.11) in the 118th Congress, I believe that there are several pieces of legislation that Congress should advance to the President's desk to make our democracy stronger ahead of the upcoming election.

Our country's current immigration system poses significant challenges to our security as a nation and to maintaining the dignity and humanity of those individuals seeking to migrate to the United States. Congress should establish humane standards for holding detained immigrants by passing the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act (H.R. 2760).
The first bill that I introduced as a Member of Congress was the Raise the Age Act (H.R.2870) which establishes new restrictions on the sale of semi automatic firearms to individuals under the age of 21- common sense legislation that makes federal laws consistent across weapon types. In addition, I am a cosponsor of the Assault Weapons Ban which criminalizes the importation, sale, manufacturing, or possession of a semiautomatic assault weapon. Climate change will never be allowed to succeed because corporate lobbyist who fund the campaigns of state and federal elective offices hold a higher degree of loyalty to special interest, corporate interest, and corporate lobbyist whose dark money influences candidate that corporate America wants elected who hold a higher degree of loyalty to their donors than they do to the environment, their oath of office, and their legislative duties to uphold and defend all citizens of the United States.

My experience as an Entrepreneur with a Law degree, an immigrant who came to the country a little over two decades ago with $100, a dad, a husband, an Information Technology Specialist /Engineer, an employee in city government in Baltimore city, Prince George's County and other fortune 500 companies and now a Candidate for US House of Representatives has armed me to be a great Representative from day one.
We need to ensure that any and everyone eligible to vote in this country should be allowed to vote regardless of what background or orientation is. No one is this nation should be deprived of their constitutional right to vote. We should also allow Green Card holders to vote while they wait for the citizenship, because while they wait, they are integral part of our country. They work, pay taxes, send their children to school and the list goes on.
Everything needs to be done to prevent any climate or environmental catastrophe. Prevention is better than cure. We have seen the melting of the ice, wild fires, hurricanes, increase in global temperature and this needs to be take and treated with utmost urgency to this and the next generation.
This nation is a nation of immigrants. With the resources this country has, we can reform immigration and clear the backlogs in the system and create a good pathway to citizenship and also make sure that we keep national security in our rather. The longer immigrants who flee war, tyranny and hunger to come to America sit for five to ten years waiting for a work permit, it diminishes the economic and even the military strength of our nation.
There are several ways to uphold the 2nd amendment in this nation and also prevent fire arms, AR-15s to fall in the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. All we need to do is tighten up the gun loop holes which will reduce the number of illegal guns on our streets.
