Sought Delaware County Commissioner (2020)
I'm seeking the office of County Clerk because I want to improve service and protect Constitutional Rights.
I want to continue the mission of providing safe, secure and accessible voting locations and methods while maintaining election integrity. I believe that government offices should always strive to find ways to better serve local communities and that Hoosiers have a Right to have their votes counted in confidence so their voices can be heard.
As Delaware County offices face a likely reduction in funding, we need someone who thinks outside of the box. We must not only find ways to to sustain the standards of service currently provided, but also be mindful of the future and set ourselves up for success later.
I hope to increase local awareness of services and opportunities the Clerk's office provides while educating the public about local elections in an objective, nonpartisan way.
I believe that a well-informed electorate makes the best decisions for their communities. I would hope to create a network that can let individuals and organizations stay informed through traditional and innovative ways not currently utilized.
My hope would be to engage people where they are in order to foster broader participation in local decisions and create the most impact.
I would also hope to find ways to increase office efficiency without sacrificing service as we head toward a likely 10% reduction in funding next year.
I would ensure Delaware County uses the most secure voting technology available. We currently use MicroVote machines with a voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) system. I would prefer to work with a company with open source codes to improve transparency and allow public scrutiny.
I'd also like to have the VVPAT system include barcodes when printing for quick scanning if an audit is needed.
Something else that I believe would be helpful is a digital system that would ensure the necessary signatures/initials are on absentee ballots before voters fill them out. In the past, votes have been tossed and elections decided because of challenges due to no fault of the voters. No citizen should lose their vote if legally cast.
