Many organizations have a growth mindset that says "if you aren't growing, you're dying". This is an outdated philosophy and one that has created much instability we are all dealing with on our roads, infrastructure and services. More rooftops demand more services and that cost cannot just fall on the shoulders of the citizens. Impact fees for development will be helpful in offsetting that cost to citizens. Counties need funding from the state to help with the infrastructure without raising taxes. Additional state monies will allow for matching funds for roads and services though federal grants & others funds, which are needed! Concurrency agreements with agencies to approve development is a next step to ensure adequate services for all.
Education! Gun violence is a public health issue and is usually a result of the inability to cope or deal with an emotional issue. We need more resources for mental health and counseling. Law enforcement and medical, is usually a first step in this process. Instead of "just" sending someone to jail with anger management classes, understanding the root issue of mental health is the only way to truly reform gun violence. Violence intervention with community programs and a comprehensive support network is a proven method. Programs on gun safety in the home are needed now more than ever. Any home that has a member who struggles with mental health will need additional support on strategies to reduce gun violence.
I genuinely care about the citizens in my district and the entire county and that is evident by my actions in addressing citizen concerns, even those not in my district. I will continue to advocate to see all sides of the issue, and to listen to concerns, while keeping in mind the affordability for our citizens. In order to make change, you must understand the root issue to affectively advocate for change. This involves working with entities from the State, and other agencies to fully understand the issues. Also, being flexible to make those hard decisions while predicting unintended consequences that will affect the future for citizens. Our mission is to provide quality services to our citizens at a reasonable cost.
