I will continue to meet the developmental needs of the district as they arise. Throughout my time as a councilmember, I have worked to prioritize smart residential growth in conjunction with smart commercial growth resulting in the creation of 8,000 new jobs. As the population continues to grow, I will ensure that our infrastructure is capable of supporting this cultivated growth by listening to the concerns of constituents regarding roads, traffic, and schools.
Last year, I voted against giving a tax break to a gun manufacturer. Gun violence is rampant across the nation and there is a direct connection between the gun violence we see and the easy access individuals have to guns. By restricting access to firearms, I believe we can reduce gun violence.
During my time representing District 2 on Richland County Council, I have advocated for under-served areas of the county through economic development. I have worked and will continue to work on identifying needs not met in certain areas and bringing in the resources needed to meet those needs. For example, I have identified food deserts in the district and worked with experts to bring in grocery stores. Not only does this help to combat food insecurity, but by bringing in business we create jobs as well. This is just one example of how I'll continue to use economic development as a means to care for our under-served populations.
The transportation penny tax provides much needed services across the county and I would support its renewal.
