I'm Mike Zubrzycki. My wife and I have called Sylvan Lake home for 31 years. We raised our two kids here, and one of them recently bought a house in Sylvan, which tells you everything about how much this City means to our family.
I've served on City Council, including a term as Mayor, and I work in business and finance, which influences how I approach every City decision, carefully and with an eye on what can actually be sustained long-term. I'm running again because I want Sylvan Lake to stay the kind of small, tight-knit city where my kids wanted to come back and raise their own families.
1. Public safety: In a city this size, a well-staffed, well-resourced police department is what keeps us feeling like a neighborhood, not just an address. I'll keep making sure public safety is funded first, not last.
2. Aging infrastructure: Rising GLWA water costs and the state's lead-line replacement mandate are hitting residents' bills directly. I've worked to phase in rate increases as fairly as possible, and I'll keep working with the City Manager to chase outside funding so residents aren't left holding the whole bill.
3. Protecting the lake: As development pressure grows, I want to hold new projects to our existing density, height, and tree-canopy standards instead of waving through variances, because the lake and the character around it are exactly what my family, and so many others, moved here for.
