I am a proud resident of West Bloomfield and have had the honor of serving on the Library Board for the past 2 years. I’ve worked in the library and museum field for over a decade, including 7 years at the West Bloomfield Library and 3 years at the Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society. I currently work as a curator managing large-scale historical displays for the Detroit Red Wings.
This background has given me a deep appreciation for how public institutions preserve history, share knowledge, and engage the community. I am running for re-election to ensure our library remains a vibrant and accessible hub for all residents.
My professional experience managing complex project budgets, executing community-focused installations, and collaborating with diverse teams directly translates to the board’s mandate. I bring a practical, strategic approach to long-term planning, and am committed to providing the responsible financial oversight necessary to keep our library thriving.
The board is responsible for policies regarding the use of the Library and its resources; budget allocation between purchasing, programming, and staffing; and ensuring facilities continue to serve the public’s needs.
While working at the Library individuals occasionally complained about certain policies, however, based on my experience the current policies benefit the community as a whole. As needs of the community change, policies should be reevaluated accordingly.
As resources become more accessible in the digital age, the Library can provide the most value through programs and activities. For example, the Library should continue collaborating with WB Parks to provide experiences that combine natural and intellectual components.
Based on my Library experience, the most requested facility resources are: more study rooms, Maker Spaces, nursing rooms, designated Mahjong tables, and a cafe. The board should encourage the formation of committees to explore these possible enhancements.
