Occupation/current position Chair, County Board of Commissioners
Qualifications Have served on various boards beginning with my election to the Posen Board of Education where I served as vice-president. Former member of the Presque Isle Conservation District board and longtime member of the Presque Isle County Farm Bureau board. Currently in my sixth year on the Presque Isle Board of Commissioners, where I serve as Chair.
Education Graduate of Posen High School Studied at Wayne State University four years.
As stated above, I have extensive experience serving on various boards, and I know how good boards operate, and how to be effective as a board member. In other words, how to get things done.
We are having, as do many other counties, problems recruiting and retaining employees in the various county departments. We need to find ways to increase employee pay in order to change this trajectory. With the recent increases in property tax revenues, and with the ability to use some ARPA funds for physical plant upgrades and maintenance, we should be able to increase pay for our employees.
We currently have funds in our housing department to assist low income people with emergency home repairs, as well as, other deferred maintenance issues. However, the funds are limited, so more help is needed. We also have dedicated millages for our senior centers and for busing. The needs always seem to outpace the resources when it comes to those less fortunate.
