Have the recent issues at the airport been resolved? If not, how would you as a Commissioner address them? And, what should be done in the future to avoid such issues again?

In the past, the Delta County Prosecutor's Office represented the County in legal matters. Recently the County hired an outside attorney to be the primary legal counsel. Do you agree with the County's current legal counsel structure? Why or why not?

I feel that Delta County deserves representation from an ethical, honest, and transparent person. I have what it takes to help move Delta County forward. Because of my previous career and political experiences this makes me a unique and qualified candidate. I am here to serve the people of our county.
Economic Development and housing shortage. I see these two as the biggest challenge with economic development necessary for Delta Counties growth. Equally challenging is the housing shortage.
Coming together as elected officials for the betterment of Delta County. Together we can maintain fiscal responsibility and encourage economic growth. Following the processes and procedures the board itself sets will elevate some of the current issues at hand.
1)Establish ethical, honest, and transparent proceedings from committees throughout the full board. 2)Maintaining fiscal responsibility and encouraging economic growth. 3)Making Delta County a destination and not a place people pass through.
No. There needs to be a comprehensive strategic plan that is manageable. It must be able to create measurable future milestones to achieve the overall goals of the plan. In the future the Board Representative will bring an overview from the advisory board to brief the County board. This will help prevent issues of what airport went through from happening again.
I find a lot of challenges with the current structure. There are Michigan laws which were highlighted by the prosecutor’s office why this is not normally done. It also outlines if it was needed it would be on a case-by-case basis. The current policy creates an encouragement for an outside counsel to bring forth litigation as it’s in their financial interest. This is not the case if the prosecutor’s office is utilized. The County Prosecutor has a vested interest in our community.
I do not agree with MPSC being involved. They are a regulatory agency that are political appointees of a sitting Governor. It leaves room for where their true interest lies. As a regulatory agency they now have the power that can completely contradict what the people have decided previously in the Counties, Township and Cities they live in.
The public should have access to the lands there. There is ample area to be able to grow our county trail system. Motorized and non-motorized applications could be utilized within different areas and times. Additionally, an outdoor classroom could be conducted with the local schools and Bay College to further conservation and education. There are several grant opportunities that could further this.
No! I would like to see a comprehensive body made up of county employees, elected and non-elected, along with members from the community. This committee would be balanced where no one political party would have a majority seat.
Having experienced this firsthand in my previously elected position, I found most people just want to be heard. Giving someone the time to talk and share their views allows a better understanding of them and their position for the best resolution to the situation.

Biography I have resided in Delta County since 1980, I have lived in Wells Township for around 15 years. I have worked in several different carriers, which has given me a lot of experiences that I apply to my service to our great county. I have earned my OTR drivers license, commercial drone operators license, contractors license, Real Estate license, HAM radio license. I have traveled all 48 continental states. I have met and worked with people from all walks of life. I feel I can put my life experiences, plus my work for the county over the last 14 months have given me a good idea of what needs to be done to help this county thrive!
Education I have had 2 years community college studying different topics,
I have many life experiences that I feel I can contribute to help make this county a better place to live
Lack of housing
Misinformation and divisiveness
Economic development, Middle class housing, do my best to keep taxes from being raised.
The immediate issues that would have either caused the airport to either be fined or even shut down have been fixed but there are many problems still need to be addressed. As far as preventing these problem from happening again will be difficult but I think we need to have our County Administrator be more involved and possibly we need to do a yearly audit so these problems don't have a chance to fester and build to the extent the previous administration allowed to happen.
Only the last few administrations have had the county prosecutor as legal council, we felt that having the prosecutor would wind up being a conflict of interest which has proven itself to be true as many dealings have had to be sent to other counties due to a conflict of interest.
I did oppose the state from interfering in local zoning. I feel that the smallest form of government should have the most influence over what you do with your property.
There has been a false narrative stating there has been limited access for the forest. In fact there is several miles of roads open to vehicles , around 9 parking areas and miles of walking trails. The only gates that are locked year round is the gates that are on walking trails and 2 gates on the northwest corner of the property that are closed in the winter and opened when they dry up in the spring, there is lots of access open throughout the entire year. As far as the future of the forest there is little that needs to be done other that mowing the walking trails when needed and possibly work on one of the drinking holes that were installed for wildlife. The cost of these measures would be at minimal cost to the parks system.
I actually do think that there the county has as good or better ethics policy than is available with other government organizations.
I am there to represent the majority of our county citizens, I work hard to represent what I feel are the wishes of the majority of our citizens and what is best to keep the county moving forward.
