I have served in this position for 2 terms and it has afforded me an incredible and fast-tracked learning opportunity. This has allowed me to have helped play a part in tremendous growth. Our revenue streams have grown significantly. We have made considerable strides in improving our infrastructure, both in our roads and drinking water (including the removal of lead service lines). We also implemented many new features to allow our residents to do more things remotely. While we strive to be ahead of the curve in providing residents with many online tools. We have not lost our focus on providing service face to face at the townships office. I also have completed my Certified Public Manager designation, to help me better serve you.
The most important responsibility is to serve our residents. This can come in many different ways: helping resolve a dispute with a neighbor, fighting blight, negotiating contracts for services, looking for grants to assist our tax payers liability. There is also a huge responsibility to have an asset management plan for our infrastructure. Money is very tight and we must maximize each and every dollar. Service and policy making are also very important. To assist me in becoming an even better servant leader, I have enrolled and have halfway through SVSU's Henry Marsh Institute for Public Policy. Lastly, overseeing numerous departments, one must be an effective leader. I have been blessed to have those abilities.
We have numerous pressing issues at this time. Funding is a major one. With more and more unfunded mandates being delivered by both federal and state legislation, we have to keep a sharp pencil and seek funding from non traditional sources (grants). We also have lost some ability to control our own zoning authority. Our Township commissions are comprised of our own residents and make decisions based on what's best for Bangor. The state has legislated control over some of that authority and set a president for taking more. I will fight to keep our decision making our own. My position as an executive board member with the Michigan Township's Association provides me a strong voice in that fight and I commit to keep fighting for you.
