Qualifications My family and I have lived in Georgetown for nearly 10 years - we love our neighborhood and are commitment to its future. I am a professional with decades of deep experience successfully facilitating conversations, reaching consensus and setting strategic direction. I also bring very local knowledge of my SMD given I am currently serving my first term as ANC 2E06 Commissioner.

The key issue facing my SMD is our ongoing response to changes brought on by the pandemic. We must fast track efforts pre-dating COVID to revitalize our commercial district, but COVID has also brought new concerns regarding crime prevention and resident safety. To address safety, I have pursued several avenues for greater information exchange and targeted action. I initiated expanded communications with the leadership of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), requested additional MPD patrols, worked with the Hate Crime division, collaborated with the Citizen Association, and communicated with residents who have been a crime victim. Moreover, we are stepping up our focus on those suffering from mental illness. Residents must feel safe. Regarding revitalization, local businesses face a new set of economic challenges. I am actively supporting innovations like streateries, regulatory relief, and building communications among residents, the BID, Main Streets and the Ward 2 office.
ANCs serve constituent views. Residents should know their ANC is accessible and can spur change/help with a range of issues (zoning, education, parks, safety, transportation, Ward relations, etc). In my first term, I worked to build communications in a number of ways: In-person at local events, sending regular email updates to a list of hundreds, having ANC 2E post on forums like NextDoor, visiting individually with residents /businesses/ religious entities, reaching out to new neighbors and encouraging feedback on the ANC 2E website. I will continue these efforts. However, COVID has highlighted the value of a greater online presence. Therefore, I have built an ANC 2E06 website and I am focused on improving ANC 2E-wide online efforts.
I feel lucky that I live in Georgetown and that I can contribute to the future of Georgetown. There are many inspiring residents and civil servants who want to make our city the best it can be. In my first term, I have helped to strengthen our neighborhood relationships with city agencies and non-profit organizations. It is rewarding to see tangible, very local results such as the improvement of our recreational fields, more bike docking stations and needed work on our historic sidewalks. It is also exciting to think about the long-term strategic changes that my fellow Commissioners, my constituents and I are helping to set in motion. The time devoted to collecting ideas and drafting recommendations will make a difference in improving our crowded Ward 2 schools, promoting pedestrian safety, preserving our tree canopy and ensuring that future city-wide planning recognizes the meaningful role that Georgetown will play in our city's future.
