My top priority will be familiarize myself with the duties and responsibilities of a commissioner, become acquainted with all county employees, and be visible, present and available to the public. The first 100 days as a commissioner will be a learning curve. I will organize the office, adhere to Colorado Revised Statutes, visit all county departments and offices introducing myself, learning about their departments and assuring them I have an open door policy and welcome them to stop by. I maintain I will have an open door policy for the public, will be in the office, and meet whether it is during business hours or in the evenings. Your opinion matters to me.
Making financial and budgeting decisions is based on internal controls, checks and balance, risk management and being in compliance. It also involves looking and approving all bills, looking at the contract between the county and third party vendor for ACH/electronic payments
To be honest, I don't have the answers. My family are hunters. We were taught you never touch a gun, unless an adult is with you. Guns existance dates back to the 13th century. There are programs in place for Domestic Violence, restraining orders, laws for purchasing, and Hunters Safety, however, it falls back on the one who is in control of the gun. It could be mental illness, however, I believe the media has an impact because they continue to broadcast it over and over, leading some to think it is a way of fame. The video games are an issue. If they would ban the graphic versions of these games it would help. Our children are so wrapped up in video games it starts to control them. If a person wants a gun they are going to do whatever it takes whether legal or not. People need to be held accountable for their actions and the judicial system needs to be more aggressive, there are consequences and also handling of mental illness.
Regarding wildfires, dead trees need to be cut down as this is a source of fueling. My thoughts on air quality is EPA has been in existence for years and has yet to find a solution. Drought we can control it by putting a cap on growth.
There is no such thing as affordable housing. I don't believe it is up to the taxpayers to pay for this program. We all had to figure out and sacrifice what it took to purchase a home. You had to work, save money, live in apartments or mobile homes. Who benefits from affordable housing? What guarantees these homes are going to be kept up and taken care of. Why is it only based on certain criteria? It doesn't matter if its affordable housing or not; people cannot pay what the rent is advertised for. Greed is a factor.
County government has no authority to override Federal Government policy. It is the responsibility of the county to verify their legal documents when it comes to a drivers license, motor vehicle insurance, license plates, and support from DHS.
I want to serve because as a native I have a vested interest and I care about our community. I have worked in county government for 16 years and I understand the fundamentals of government. I am tired of the frivolous spending, dependancy on grants, no internal controls, no accountablilty, and failing to take care of our roads, parks, and buildings. I also want to see all entities get along, working together and doing what is in the best interest and stop playing favorites to organizations, contractors etc..... I also will adhere to Colorado Revised Statutes and agree to change the public meetings to a time convenient for everyone to attend and voice their opinion. We work for you, the taxpayers.
