I will ensure the values and interests of rural Routt County is restored at Board of County Commissioners by defending private property rights, protecting natural habitats and resources through proper land use principles, and identify regulations that can be streamlined or eliminated to reduce building costs which drive up the cost of living and deprive our communities of attainable housing and economic vitality.
I will first assess what value a regulation or tax is delivering to the county in terms of cost of living and quality of life. I'll then
determine if it should be retained or considered for elimination. My fundamental principle is, if you want to get less of something, regulate it or tax it.
We need trained, equipped, and supported law enforcement in our communities. And we also need a genuine respect for the Second Amendment. A well-trained citizenry in the use of firearms produces a safe citizenry when coupled with a respect for the law.
As a land developer, rancher, and businessman, I am first and foremost a conservationist. As county commissioner, I will continue to apply my expertise and values to protect our natural resources, wildlife habitats, and communities from natural and man-made phenomena.
Housing should not just be "affordable" it should be attainable as personal private property and bring individuals and young families a means to build wealth and invest back into the community. I will work to streamline and reduce regulations and financial barriers to deliver a variety of housing options across the county that will allow individuals and families to become homeowners, not just renters.
As county commissioner, I value any hard-working, law-abiding citizen or immigrant in Routt County. In this capacity, I will uphold state and federal laws to the best of my ability while ensuring immigrants are treated fairly and respectfully as valued members of our community.
I have lived and worked in Routt County for over 60 years. I have seen how our Board of County Commissioners no longer represent rural Routt County. I have also seen how BoCC has grown the county government through vast new regulations that impose on individuals, families, and businesses while delivering no value to the community. I want to restore representational government, transparency, and efficiency to Routt County so all of our citizens have opportunities to thrive and succeed.
