Continued emphasis on educating the elderly on crimes against them and how to avoid victimization. Such crimes are under reported and all too often dismissed as civil, not criminal, matters by those charged with the investigation of complaints. My Crimes Against the Elderly Task Force is having a dramatic effect on the interest of law enforcement in the recognition of such crimes and follow-up toward prosecution, accountability and restitution for the damage caused by offenders.
My Outreach Director continues to receive education on how such crimes (scams) are perpetrated and makes presentations to the most vulnerable in our community about such crimes and how to avoid them. I, likewise, look forward to making such presentations and to give historical perspective on how things in law enforcement have changed over the years. It is just one benefit of having practiced law for over a half century!
While my office as County Prosecutor is a political position, I have no political agenda for how the law is followed. Whatever discretion I may have to the strict letter of the law, such discretion can never be applied based on gender, race or religion. Every employee of mine is hired based on merit- not gender, race, religion or political persuasion. Each assistant prosecutor knows and practices that justice always comes first, and winning cases is always a close second. The reason is simple. If winning is first, justice will eventually fail. I that fails, I will have failed in my sworn duty to the citizens of Butler County.
