We need to improve Pre-K and K-3 reading and math scores as well as 7th grade math scores. Studies show, the better a child is performing in reading and math by third grade, the more likely they are to graduate high school.
We need to direct more resources to classroom instruction as well as increase salaries for veteran teachers, improving recruitment and retention.
The State has significantly increased the starting salaries for new teachers; however, little has been done to increase compensation for veteran teachers. If we want to improve teacher retention, teachers must earn a living wage.
Generally, the current board works well together. The administrator is transparent and responsive. The district needs to focus on those areas where our students are lagging behind the State average and redirect their resources to address those deficiencies.
