I am a lifelong Coon Rapids resident with my wife and two children. I grew up in Coon Rapids, graduated from CRHS, and Iowa State University with dual business majors, and I have worked for a major Minnesotan manufacturing company for over 17 years, this is my home. I’ve served on the Coon Rapids Planning Commission since 2019 where I’ve helped update our ordinances and had a hands-on approach to addressing housing concerns within the city. I’ve also served on the Transportation Advisory Board since 2017 and have helped secure millions in federal transportation funding for the city and Anoka County. I know what it takes to work with staff at multiple levels of our government and how to get the outcomes that citizens need.
Simplification of city code and ordinances, housing, and long range budgetary planning. I have found that many of our ordinances are out of date, or overly complex. I'd like to continue revising them from my time on the Planning Commission. I would also like the city to continue to provide a variety of housing options. Finally, I think we need to consider a longer term budget to continue to meet the needs of the citizens of Coon Rapids.
I’ve been actively engaged in representing members of the entire community both at TAB and on the Planning Commission. I’ve also loved having casual conversations with residents out and around the city. The city demographics have been evolving a lot in the last twenty years. I think it’s important to connect to those new voices and make sure the city has a plan to meet the future citizens of Coon Rapids, as well as the existing.
The council meetings are open to the public, including the workshops (with rare exception.) Having newspaper coverage as well as televised and recorded meetings provides a lot of transparency. For accountability, public comment is present for every meeting. Additionally, the staff is under the city manager, and the city manager reports to the council and the council is held accountable at the ballot box. If things aren’t working well, every citizen has the opportunity to be a voice for change.
