The chief function of a legislator is to enact laws. Each legislator represents a certain area as well as a number of individuals, referred to as constituents, who live in that area. In Minnesota, a state senator represents roughly 78,000 people, while a representative or house member represents approximately 39,000 people. There are 67 members in the Senate and 134 in the House. 1. Fully fund prek-12 and special education because our education system is one of the most important aspects and children are the future of Minnesota.
2. Ensure rural infrastructure (water/sewer treatment plants, roads, etc) is a top priority for bonding as our infrastructure is aging and not keeping up with the growth that our rural communities need to survive.
3. Support small business and family farms. These are the backbone of our rural communities and rural Minnesota; if we lose these, we will lose our way of life.
Reduce the number of unfunded mandates on our small businesses and local governments. Allow communities to make local decisions because they know there needs the best. I would support allocating funds from the state to build affordable housing in communities to ensure growth. To support farmers across the state we need to invest in products that utilize our commodities locally such as oats, corn, and soybeans.
We need legislation to increase school funding for our underserved populations. Ensuring access to education for all Minnesotans is an important issue. In addition, supporting access to rural healthcare and housing is important. Our rural communities are being left without access to local health care provider due to closing of medical centers leaving our rural population at increased risk. Housing in our rural communities continues to be a major issue with lack of affordable housing options.
Yes I would support this. Each person, no matter how they look or their beliefs should have the right to be free of discrimination.
With data centers being such a big topic, Minnesota needs to ensure that our MPCA regulations for data centers are strong enough to protect the environment. With mining opportunities in northern Minnesota, we need to have strong protections against pollution. We need to continue to invest in renewable energy products.
Ensure adequate funding to our rural police, fire, an ambulance services. Most of our small communities are struggling to fund these and keep up with the required maintenance of equipment as well as find volunteers for these services. I think we need to look from a state level on how we support these to ensure our local communities are protected.
I think the state should put more restrictions on corporate PACs. Corporations should not have more say in an election than the people.
