Coroner

Indiana has a coroner system, not a medical examiner system. State law requires the Medicolegal Death Investigator (MDI) training and certification for all elected coroners. The coroner serves the role of an administrator of the death investigation, identification of the deceased, determination of the cause of death and determination of the manner of death. The coroner is considered an officer of the court with the power to investigate the death, subpoena information, and order an autopsy. Serves 4 years.

What ideas do you have for improving and maintaining the efficient operation of the coroner's office in the next four years?

Education 1999 Graduate of Hagerstown Jr. Sr. High School and 2008 Graduate of Ball Memorial Hospital Paramedic Program
Experience and qualifications I took the State Emergency Medical Technician Basic class and became a certified EMT in 1999. I also served as Captain of the Hagerstown Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department. In 2008 I became a licensed Paramedic through the State of Indiana and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. In 2008 I also became a Reserve Police Officer. I am currently EMS Chief for the New Castle-Henry County Emergency Medical Service. I am also still active in the fire service and still serves the Town of Hagerstown as a Reserve Police Officer. In 2021 I became a Deputy Coroner for Henry County and became a certified Medicolegal Death Investigator. In 2023 I won the Caucus for Coroner.
Community involvements I am active in local charitable and fraternal organizations.
I have 25 years of public safety experience through many disciplines. Throughout out my years of service I have worked in busy metropolitan services as well as small towns. I have always been able to work closely with all agencies involved with processing a death scene. I am a certified Medicolegal Death Investigator and attend current in service on a regular basis to continue to expand my knowledge and training.
I have built a staff of Certified Medicolegal Death Investigators, have continued to improve compliance of state records management, and have continued to improve the Office of Coroner. With the increase in overdose deaths in Henry County, I began to work closer with county and state organizations to help educate citizens and provide resources.
