First is property tax, second transparency, third accountability. We will expose artificially inflated property valuations causing property taxes to rise intolerably. Transparency lets us identify that problem. Accountability helps us to solve the problem at its origin. We now know EXACTLY why El Paso has the highest property tax in Texas, and among the highest property taxes nationwide, even with living standards not justifying the high property taxes. Disparity in market and assessed property values is beyond alarming, better described as criminal. Yes, there are criminal charges now filed in certain parts of Texas, due to fraudulent assessment of property values, specifically for the purpose of increasing property tax revenue to the point that people can't afford to keep their homes. This is truly intolerable, so I will address the problem honorably and effectively to the full extent of my ability, as soon as I'm elected. This is an economic issue that unifies us across party lines.
Bond authority control is top priority, since it addresses the debt problem that has gotten out of control. First, we focus on reducing the debt, so there will be more money for personnel, roads, bridges and other needs, rather than letting that money enrich a few people. This initiative correlates directly with my prioritization of property tax as our primary focal point.
The treasurer funds all of the county's obligations. If any revenues are misused in any way, everyone in El Paso County suffers, except for those enriching themselves by serving their own interests, while disguising that as being in the County's best interests. It's our duty to be good stewards over the County's treasury, so we can improve quality of life for all El Paso.
As we expose misuse of revenues for things far less important than healthcare, there will be more money to direct toward all healthcare needs, which go unaddressed, while certain influential folks enrich themselves at the expense of basic healthcare for every El Pasoan. We have UMC, built on the site of the old Thomason Hospital, which served our indigent population well.
Absolutely. The first role of County Commissioners is remembering and honoring our duty to the awesome people of our wonderful city, El Paso, Texas. I've lived here for almost 38 years, so I'm in love with the people, culture, climate, economy and opportunity to serve our lovely residents.
