VOTE411 Voter Guide

Texas House District 85

A state representative is a politician who serves in a state-level legislative branch. These politicians represent local cities or counties and help to form state laws that benefit their constituents. A career as a state representative is often a stepping stone to future positions with the U.S. Congress or other political jobs at the state or federal level.State representatives introduce and vote on bills that represent the interests of their constituents (people who live in their voting district). They create new laws, modify or update old laws and serve on research committees within the legislative branch. These representatives uphold the state's Constitution, and vote on changes to the Constitution when amendments are needed. They may address issues such as education, transportation, commerce, state taxes and any other items that are a concern to local residents. Representatives may also assist constituents with personal legal issues such as immigration or justice problems.

I am a true conservative, and I believe in the cause of conservatism. I am not bought and paid for by lobbyists and PACs. I am an engineer in my day job, and I will take that strict analytical scrutiny to the legislature.
The federal government is out of control. They have left our border insecure, caused inflation through printing money, are destroying what is left of our economy in the name of climate change, and is coming after our citizens with their three letter agencies like the ATF, IRS, and FBI. The federal government must be stopped, the border must be secured, we must provide for a stable currency, we must resist the globalist push to eliminate cash, and we must stop the transgender push. Almost all of our issues start and are directly linked to the federal government’s ineptitude to protect our citizens.
I want to see funding follow the student, and want to abolish the TEA. Local schools should be run by the local school boards, or Austin.
Send the Texas military forces to secure the border, create a state wide border unit with the DPS so facility removal of illegal aliens, remove illegal alien children from schools.

A conservative perspective of ethical, limited government, experience in small business, local education and local government gives me a well rounded ability to represent my district. As a former US Army soldier and a life-long student of geo-politics, which seems especially germane in this point in Texas history, I have a special awareness of the dangers facing our great state. Having completed a successful first term in the House of Representatives, provides a valuable level of experience as well.
Without question, the a secure southern border is the most pressing issue to Texas. As part of the 88th Legislature, I advocated for and help pass some of the most sweeping legislation any state has ever had to pass to protect its citizens from unchecked illegal invasion. Absent the federal administration's recognition to perform its duty to all Americans, Texas will continue to lead in order to protect our sovereignty and rule of law.
I am on record for supporting school choice for the parents of our school children. However, returning our local schools to the standards expected by taxpayers and parents remains a top priority. School funding and assessment must be fair, ethical and effective in order to provide the best possible education to all students who call Texas home.
First, the unlawful entry into the state must be stopped. Until that goal is fully reached, ensuring that local and state law enforcement have the resources they need to protect their communities from cartel crime and the burdens of unchecked immigration is a necessary priority. Border communities bear the initial pressure form illegal immigration which requires additional support for law enforcement, counties, cities, schools, hospitals and other civil services.
