For years I have been planning my campaign to run for office. I have a business in The Colony and a genuine feeling of pride for my city. I want to provide a voice and be a strong representative for every citizen. I feel that too many people feel left behind and abandoned by their government and don't feel like they make a difference. I want everyone to have a feeling of self worth and a feeling that their representatives actually care about every citizen not just the rich or well connected. I think that we have failed a lot of people for a long time, and that needs to be fixed. I don't want City Council to be where I end up, I want it to be a strong beginning for me to make positive changes at every level.
I have been active in countless city events as a vendor or a sponsor for years. I have built a community of trust through my business in Grandscape, and my service in the community. My background in Management and business development with over 20 years in the field also provides a solid financial understanding giving me the ability to contribute with planning and budgeting on a city level. I have established relationships with our city law enforcement and other business owners and managers through my work with the Chamber of Commerce.
I think that city hall already has an open door policy. They also have standards in place to allow any citizen to speak openly at council meetings. The disconnect I believe is that not everyone knows about this. I think that more connections need to be made away from city hall so that people have an in to come and speak. There are too many people who don't have the confidence or the knowledge, I want to use my platform to make everyone aware of how our local government works so that they will all use their voice to make a change. I have an open communication policy with everyone, from my employees to my customers, and I want that same level of communication with all of you.
The biggest concerns that I have right now are Data Centers and Dirty development. I think that everything proposed for The Colony should have a large level of scrutiny applied, because something might be financially beneficial that does not make it beneficial to our citizens. We need to be mindful of our limited resources and build accordingly.
I plan to work closely with our City Manager and City Planner to address any concerns involving transportation and infrastructure. There are many areas in our City that are not a great distance apart. We are lucky to have a relatively small area. I think that more work needs to be put into a functional public transportation option that more citizens will have access to. Everything done has to fit into the yearly fiscal budget so fund raisers and community events needs to be utilized to build capital for any projects. Our current Council is dedicated to keeping property taxes down for our residents and that is always going to be our biggest concern when addressing development.
