DISD Board of Trustees oversees a $2.4B budget, hires the Superintendent, establishes policies and priorities for the school system, evaluates school performance, issues bonds and sets the tax rate to cover the costs of district operation. Elected from single member districts, the 9 Trustees serve without compensation to 3 year staggered terms. If no candidate receives at least 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff election.
During my time on the board, I have become a master trustee through TASB. I am one of two out of nine trustees that have that distinct designation..
I was a business owner for over 30 years, which gave me a lot of insight on working through problems, understanding, budgets, working with individuals and the understanding of what it takes to want a business. Dallas ISD is a business and has to be wearing soundly and fiscally responsible for the funds that we received from the state and other entities.
I also feel that my constant conversations with administration about where I feel there were in equities in the system and having them to address them are made DallasISD a better place for all children.
I clearly believe that teacher pay is an issue that continues to be have to be addressed. Well, we do know the Dallas ISD starting salary is $65,000 with no experience and that that is probably one of the higher paying jobs for young people right out of college to come into the teaching profession but I’m also concerned about what happens to teachers who have been in the profession for years and may change school districts or may take on another teaching role. How are they compensated and when are they compensated for their abilities.
Currently, we do not know how many students will leave an independent school district because of vouchers. We do believe that most of the voucher supporters will be students that are already in private schools..
The amount of money that is allocated for vouchers per student, would not be enough to actually have a student to leave an ISD and go to a private school. We are in close watch on the numbers to see exactly what is happening. Where is happening when is happening and how is happening? .
Attendance in Dallas ISD is not increasing nor decreasing it is our belief that we should continue to stress attendance and to ensure the students if they’re not attending classes, they’re losing some of their opportunity to learn. DallasISD also has programs that reward students in some schools for attendance and I think that is healthy.
Is there a number of policies and programs that address student behavior and that support students and employees from discrimination.
Our student code of conduct is a something that we address every year looking at what constitutes good behavior and bad behavior. We should continue to upgrade that on a daily basis to ensure that there is in fact, a standard set for student behavior.. trustees have an opportunity to appoint individuals to that committee.
RDH policies are employee issues, policies, and periodically. They are bought before the board for ratification.

I am qualified to serve on the School Board through strong academic preparation, over 20 years of experience in education, and deep community involvement. I hold a Master’s in Educational Leadership and am a certified Texas educator. As an Assistant Principal, I lead instruction, support teachers, and drive student achievement. I understand education law, policy, and data-driven decision-making. My service on district committees, leadership in TABSE, and community mentorship reflect my commitment to students, families, and effective school governance.
Attracting and retaining quality teachers requires a strategic, budget conscious approach. I support competitive, differentiated pay that rewards effectiveness and hard-to-staff areas, while maximizing existing funds. I would prioritize reallocating resources to classrooms, pursuing grants and partnerships, and strengthening “grow-your-own” teacher pipelines. Retention also depends on strong leadership, meaningful professional development, and positive school culture. By valuing teachers, providing support, and using funds wisely, we can sustain a high-quality workforce.
I don't have that Data as of yet.
Attendance in Dallas ISD is improving from pandemic lows, but still not fully recovered. Chronic absenteeism remains around 19%, meaning nearly 1 in 5 students misses significant instructional time.
This does create pressure on the district funding, staffing, and academic outcomes are all tied to attendance. When students are not consistently present, it limits learning gains and strains the district’s ability to deliver high-quality instruction and services effectively.
I support clear anti-discrimination policies aligned with federal and state law, including Title IX and equal employment protections. This includes mandatory reporting procedures, regular staff training, and transparent investigation processes. I would also ensure safe, accessible reporting systems, consistent enforcement of consequences, and ongoing monitoring to promote an inclusive, respectful environment for all students and employees.
I will focus on improving student achievement, closing opportunity gaps, and strengthening college and career readiness. I also prioritize school safety, mental health support, and family engagement. Ensuring responsible budgeting, modern facilities, and strong teacher support systems will remain key to sustaining student success across Dallas ISD.
