I have spent my career working with children and families as a special education teacher, a CASA volunteer, and a family law attorney with nearly a decade of experience practicing exclusively in family law and handling complex cases. I earned both my undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and am a wife, a mother, and a small business owner. My parents separated when I was young, giving me firsthand experience with the family court system. That perspective guides my commitment to fair, timely, and respectful decisions for families in Dallas County.
My commitment to impartiality comes from years in family court, where I have seen how delays, inconsistency, and lack of transparency lead litigants to question whether outcomes depend on gender, ethnicity, financial resources, campaign activity, or the identity of their attorney. That perception damages trust in the courts. As a judge, I will ensure every litigant is heard and that decisions are based solely on the law, the evidence, and the best interests of children. Fairness, clarity, and accountability will guide every ruling.
Equity in the courtroom begins with clarity and consistency. Too often, litigants leave court unsure of what happened, why a decision was made, or what comes next, and confidence in the system is lost. I am committed to explaining rulings clearly, so no one leaves confused or unheard. My professional experience in family court, combined with personal experience navigating this system, gives me insight into the diverse realities families face. Equity means recognizing those differences while applying the law consistently, with dignity and a meaningful opportunity to be heard.
One of the most pressing challenges facing the courts today is delay and a lack of clarity, which disproportionately affect self-represented litigants and families seeking stability. When procedures are confusing or rulings are slow, trust in the system suffers. Judges can address this by managing organized dockets, issuing timely rulings, and explaining decisions in plain language so all parties (especially those without attorneys) understand the outcome and next steps. Clear and efficient courts promote fairness and confidence in the justice system.
My judicial philosophy is grounded in fairness and sound judgment. Fairness means applying the law accurately, providing clear guidance, and basing decisions solely on the facts and legal standards. Sound judgment requires decisiveness balanced with patience, humility, and self-control. A judge must listen carefully, remain composed, and issue timely rulings that uphold the law and protect families and children. Justice requires compassion and accountability, ensuring decisions serve the law, the court, and the community with integrity.
