I have no prior experience having run for, or having been an elected official. My experience is rooted in my belief that our founders intended for official to be everyday people. Those who understand the consequences of the decisions they make, who understand that being a representative is a commitment to being a servant of the community.
Working in healthcare I've come to appreciate the value and importance of service. That a commitment to the health and welfare of others, is synonymous and parallels the role of our elected officials. It's that very spirit that qualifies me for a such a role
A government’s duty to protect the health and safety of its people is a core function of democracy, rooted in the Declaration of Independence’s promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These cannot exist without well-being. A system centered on citizens’ health strengthens our democratic foundation. My goal will be to begin with education, working with experts to equip future leaders to build a healthy society. And to promote affordable healthcare, working to find that balance between providers and payers that ensures accountability and transparency.
My first goal and priority is to reduce the burden of government through real accountability, starting with term limits. Accountability strengthens trust and performance. Secondly, we need greater visibility into government operations, having a community based dashboard with clear goals and targets will show where we must improve, allowing us to work directly with communities, investors, and residents on solutions that drive economic growth, especially for local small businesses. These are the backbone of our economy, we must be aggressive in keeping jobs, investment, and opportunities local.
Securing a long-term water supply is a complex challenge that requires strong government investment and collaboration. Rapid growth has strained local infrastructure, so I will work with city leaders to restore their ability to manage growth responsibly. Developers must be held accountable to partner with cities to plan for and support increased water demand, without penalizing long-time residents. We must also explore new solutions by working collaboratively with the Texas Water Development Board, city leaders, and other agencies to ensure a reliable water future.
Education must be a top priority and led locally. Every community faces unique challenges, so the state’s role is to provide a strong framework that empowers school administrators, parents, and students to shape plans that best prepare learners for success. This includes curriculum, health, and wellness. State education policy should be developed in partnership with school districts, guided by their input and experience. We have worked too long in silos, with decisions made by legislators removed from the realities of the classroom.
