I retired from Garland ISD in 2024. I was a science teacher in the district and an administrator for 23 years serving middle school and high school.
I have four children who have benefited from and continue to benefit from what Garland ISD has to offer.
My wife, also an administrator, is a product of Garland ISD. We have deep roots in the community and I want to continue to serve the students, staff and families of Garland ISD.
I want to support students on each end of the learning continuum. My own children have benefited from the services Garland ISD provides to meet the needs of exceptional learners.
I will to continue to support the community by providing schools that are equitable in structure and programs offered, regardless of geographic location in our district.
I am seeking office in this election to offer my experience and loyalty to Garland ISD.
Recruitment and retention are affected by culture and climate. Teachers and staff members need to feel that they are valued, respected, supported, and adequately trained for their positions. Salary will always be a factor for recruitment and retention, but developing climate and culture during a time of budgetary constraints is a higher priority.
In the immediate future, Garland ISD will not be affected by vouchers at the level that some believe. Students with special needs will be the priority for the vouchers. The number of students qualifying for vouchers is quite low. The budget will be impacted, even for a small number of students. Parents are seeking alternatives to the services they are to receive through Special Education services, such as speech therapy. The vouchers will continue to be an issue and parents will continue to seek alternatives if they believe they are not receiving the services at the level of expectation.
Similar to retention of teachers and staff, climate and culture affects student enrollment and attendance. Students want to belong. Students want to be part of the culture. The weight is on the district to provide opportunities for students to connect and grow in such a way that that they, and their families, feel that that they are receiving the expected level of service.
Through my tenure as a teacher and administrator, we were proud to have policies, procedures, and guidelines in place that protected students and employees form discrimination. I will continue to foster those supports if elected.
There was a time that Garland ISD was known for a world class special education program. I want to support the district to return to that status, but not just for Special Education, but for all exceptional learners. GISD prided itself on a unique gifted and talented magnet program and a GT program provided at home campuses. I want to support the district to provide opportunities for students to be competitive with any other students across the state of Texas.

Note:
I have served on the Garland Board since 2021 and ask for your continued support as I seek re-election.
I have served on the Board since 2021 and have remained consistent in the perspective and experience I bring—offering a unique voice shaped by both personal and professional experiences.
As a mother, I raised a gifted and talented student who pursued higher education and became the first in several generations of our blue-collar family to earn a degree. I am also the mother of a non-traditional learner and the grandmother of a student who faced similar learning challenges as her father.
Professionally, I work in the private sector specializing in business analytics and systems implementation, bringing a practical, data-driven perspective to board decisions.
My connection to GISD is deeply personal—my husband is a graduate of the district, and my granddaughter received her foundational education from Pre-K through third grade within GISD. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to serving and representing the diverse communities within our district.
I am proud to have earned the endorsement of the Garland Education Association. I remain committed to listening to these dedicated professionals and ensuring their voices are heard. As a board member, I advocate for the tools, professional development, and campus culture needed to support our staff, while working to keep GISD competitive within DFW in wages and advancement opportunities. I also serve on the Region 10 Legislative Advocacy Council, advocating for public education at the state and federal levels and continue to prioritize our teachers and staff who support our students every day.
Vouchers remain an area of uncertainty for our district. Enrollment declines seem to be primarily driven by aging demographics, growth of charter schools, and increased homeschooling. We continue evaluating programs to ensure a strong, diverse educational experience. GISD’s school choice opportunities remain a key strength and contribute to our strong outcomes. We will stay focused on high expectations and robust supports so every student can achieve their dreams.
Yes, we are seeing declining enrollment, but even more concerning is the decline in consistent attendance. Attendance is critical not only for public school funding but, more importantly, for student learning—if students are not in class, we cannot teach them effectively. Budget constraints impact our ability to allocate resources to support at-risk students and address barriers to strong attendance. We remain committed to identifying and overcoming these challenges so every student has the opportunity to succeed.
We continue using our student population to guide reporting bands for out-of-school and in-school exclusionary incidents, with no changes planned. We prioritize recruiting at traditional and non-traditional campuses and strengthening “grow our own” programs, allowing diverse graduates to return as educators. Recent legislative discipline changes mainly affected out-of-school consequences for grades 3 and under, supported by teachers. We balance teacher autonomy with consistent expectations and consequences for student behavior.
We must work with state legislators to correct misinformation about school funding and ensure informed decisions that support public education. Stay focused on what we can control—providing high-quality programs for all students, strengthening early support for students with learning challenges while balancing the needs of our gifted and talented and our special education students, remaining committed to meeting their unique needs with care, expertise, and compassion. Though expectations are high, by staying student-centered and working together, we can achieve great things for every learner.
