The primary statutory duty of the office of county assessor is to assess/appraise all real property in Marion County. Other duties include the transfer of all conveyance documents; administration of business personal property; capturing and administering all sales disclosures in the county.
The County Assessor must obtain an Indiana Level 3 Assessor certification, which I am.
I also have over 30 years of real estate brokerage, management and appraising experience.
Rising inflation of residential home values is the greatest challenge facing county assessors. With the median assessed value of a home in Marion County rising more than 56% over the last five years. This increase is tied directly to the price of single family home values significant rise in sales price. The assessor values retrospectively, so we use sales that occurred in the past to value as of every January 1st. So, we don’t project or predict value.
As in the years past I will work with the legislature to see meaningful tax relief going towards home assessments and not just big business receiving tax relief.
We strive to achieve accurate and equitable assessments every year using technology and process improvement to accomplish these goals as efficiently as possible.
As in most industries now AI or artificial intelligence will have an enormous impact on the assessing industry. We have started implementing AI and training staff for best use and practices to be able to compete and utilize this ever changing technology.
Community outreach and transparency have and always will be integral components in the office of County Assessor.
