After graduating from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, I began my career in public service at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. In my fifteen years, I have had every job in the office. I’ve personally prosecuted murders, gun violence, and complex felony cases, trying more than 100 jury and bench trials. So, I understand the deep commitment that drives prosecutors to seek justice for victims. As Prosecutor, I’ve focused our office on what truly keeps people safe: holding violent offenders accountable, improving conviction rates in our most serious cases, and building a system people trust enough to participate in.
Violence, especially gun violence, continues to shape how safe people feel in their own neighborhoods. And, a lack of trust in the justice system makes it harder to solve those crimes, because witnesses don’t come forward and communities disengage. Our focus continues to prioritize violent crime, strengthen trial work, and invest in relationships beyond the courtroom. We’ve reallocated resources away from low-level offenses so we can focus on homicides, sexual assault, and repeat violent offenders. We’ve also expanded community-based initiatives to create spaces where we can improve quality of life while listening to the community. Our approach of investing in communities has resulted in record setting conviction rates in homicide cases.
We will continue to focus on violent crime, ensuring that our prosecutors have the training, resources, and support needed to secure strong outcomes in the most serious cases.
At the same time, expanding prevention efforts that reduce the likelihood of violence in the first place is critical. That includes youth engagement, conflict resolution programs, and partnerships with organizations working on housing stability and reentry. Prevention is one of the most effective public safety tools we have.
The political noise around public safety and the tendency to reduce complex issues into slogans is a challenge. I address that by staying grounded in data and results. Our approach has led to stronger conviction rates in violent crime cases and more strategic use of resources. Another challenge is the sheer scale of the work. Marion County has one of the largest caseloads in the state. That demands constant attention to efficiency, staffing, and prioritization.
We're going to keep moving forward in our lane and stay focused on what actually makes people safer, and don’t get distracted by what sounds good in a press release or on social media.
Our work at the prosecutor’s office is high-stakes, and shapes not only individual outcomes, but the public’s confidence in our community. I want to keep building a criminal justice system that is fair, transparent, and focused on real safety. And if we do that well, we'll see fewer victims, stronger communities, and a system people trust enough to engage with.
