Experience (300 characters max) Small Business Owner; Bellevue Mayor and Councilmember (2013 - Present)
As mayor and current council member, I will continue to participate in community events and hold open office hours. I meet with community members regularly and my office hours are typically filled.
By creating a lifestyle that supports multimodal transportation options, affordable housing in TOD and infrastructure for peds/bikes, we can encourage people to drive less. Already, we have seen a 25% decreases in car trips per capita, possibly due to our free electric shuttle.
I have been a lifelong volunteer. I served on the Bellevue Network on Aging and the Parks and Community Services board before joining the City Council. I have been on the council for 12 years now and mayor for 6.
number one: prevention. Work with families and especially children to create stability in their lives and offer support in the form of rental assistance, food stability, counseling, affordable housing access. number two: treatment. Provide facilities that house and treat individuals experiencing homelessness. Offer healthcare, mental healthcare, job training, addiction treatment, etc number three: community. Involve our residents to know that these individuals are us and they need to feel and know they belong to our community. By encouraging volunteerism, people can learn about homelessness and the people affected by it. Everyone is someone's child. I have created job training programs for people in our men's shelter and partnered with Bellevue College to create education programs for that population.
My vision is to create an equitable opportunity for everyone in Bellevue to have a high quality of life: excellent public education, high public safety, access to parks and green spaces, access to health care, and access to stable housing.
