Personal Biography I am a community activist, college history professor and Ks State Representative. I strive to be the voice of those who are marginalized and who have been denied a "seat at the table."
Education AA-KCKCC, BSE- Univ. of Ks.; M.A.-Univ. of Ks.; PhD-Univ. of Ks.
Community/Public Service USD 500 Board of Education; Pres. of Ks. chapter of the NWPC; member of Struggler's Hill/Roots Neighborhood Association; and Board member-Greater KC Women's Political Caucus.
I am a strong educator with a proven record of community service. I have been active in my neighborhood association for over 2 decades and most knowledgeable on the topics of public education, community involvement and women's political activism.
Maintaining constitutionally full-funding of public education, Medicaid expansion and protecting Women's health. I will continue as the Ranking member of the House K-12 Ed Budget Committee to fight for funding of public education. I will vote to expand Medicaid and protect women's health provisions. I serve as the President of the Ks. chapter of the National Women's Political Caucus and I will work to re-organize the chapter and engage more Kansas' women to join and get involved in recruiting, training and electing more progressive women to elective office.
Bills should be on the Ks Legislative website for at least 2 days before they are heard in committees so that citizens will have the opportunity to testify in person or submit testimony. The "Gut and Go" process must be more transparent in that if contents change then the title should reflect the changes. Also, there should be a time "certain" before "Gut and Go" bills can be acted upon ...so that citizens can find out the "NEW" contents of bills...before they are voted upon by the full legislature.
I would make voter registration available when students turn 18. I would also make early voting longer than two weeks. Also, because the USPS is so slow, then mail-in ballots should have 10 days to reach the election office.
