Personal Biography I was born and raised in Wichita, the 4th child of a small business owner. I attended Wichita Public Schools, graduating with honors from North High. I raised 2 children, mostly as a single parent. After 25 years as a USPS employee, I retired. I enjoy time with my grandchildren.
Education I have attended some college but did not obtain a degree.
Community/Public Service I have not held any public office. I have served in leader roles for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
As a union official for 35+ years, I understand how to listen to what people need. Using this knowledge, I have negotiated solutions to the problems. Fighting for working families is what we need. Having raised 2 children as a single mother gave me insight into the specific challenges this entails. One of my granddaughters is Autistic with other special needs. Experiencing the struggle provides special understanding of the issues we face.
Medicaid expansion - the key is to convince people of the benefit of obtaining these federal funds. School finance - ensuring that everyone understands the needs and the formula on how that is met. Taxes - alternative to raising taxes must be examined. This would even include the possibility of legalizing marijuana so that it can be taxed.
The key to making it easier to follow is to include a summary instead of the "legal" language to the legislative website. As for the gut and go, this should be illegal. Changing the entire content of a bill creates the illusion that the original was supported or not supported when it is entirely different.
I am always open to new ideas. I do like the limits on contributions and the reporting.
