Personal Biography I was born in Olathe, attended MidAmerica Nazarene University and have called Olathe home since 2011. I have worked for both non-profits and small businesses for the majority of my career. I enjoy learning with a passion, I have been pursuing nutritional education since 2018 to further my understanding of how different foods effect our bodies.
Education Fun fact I attended Green Springs Elementary during its inaugural year! I graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in organizational leadership and Spanish.
Community/Public Service Helping people has been a part of my life since a young age. I attend College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe and the passion my church has for serving others is inspiring. I was one of the first volunteers at KCUYC when it opened (later I became an employee). I have volunteered for other candidates in recent years to help get their message to voters.
My desire to actually improve the lives of those living in House District 15 by pursuing real tax reform. I have worked in small businesses and in both after-school non-profits and for a non-profit focused on mental health. I was born in this district, the people of House District 15 are more than voters to me, they are friends, family, neighbors, and loved ones. I will carry my passion for caring for the vulnerable and this district every day in Topeka. I want to be an advocate for District 15 constituents, not an activist. Hot button issues are popular to talk about but a legislator needs to address ALL issues facing Kansas. Once I get to Topeka I will stay in contact with my constituents; door knocking isn't just for campaign season.
1. True tax reform- We have to get Kansans' dollars back in their pockets. Kansas property taxes must be cut! 2. Helping the most vulnerable- by improving Medicaid, the Foster Care system and access to Mental Health assistance. 3. Education-specifically special education needs to be fully funded.
Kansans need to know that both committee meetings and the House floor is live streamed. They may not be able to make it to Topeka, but they can still see the process in real time. I would also like be able to help constituents understand how to look up bills on the Kansas Legislature website, it can be daunting at first, but is definitely do-able if someone shows them how! With regards to "Gut and Go" I'm still learning about the legislative process, but I am open to any changes that make the process more transparent.
I would want to hear what changes are being suggested so I can make a more informed response. I think Johnson County has done a great job with voting accessibility.

Personal Biography Olathe has always been my home. My great-grandparents moved here in 1859 after they were kicked out of Missouri for being anti-slavery, and the Houglands have been here ever since. I grew up on the outskirts of town, attending Olathe Public Schools. I followed in my Mother's footsteps when I began my own Real Estate Business. Serving Olathe as she did. I have been building relationships my entire adult life in various sales positions. Always problem solving and providing solutions.
Education Olathe Public Schools and JCCC
Community/Public Service I have volunteered with the Johnson County Cold Weather Shelter for several years (Project 10/20) and prior to that I volunteered at My Father's House another Homeless Shelter in Paola Kansas.
House District 15 is unlike any other House District in Johnson County. It is in "Original Town" and now encompasses not only Mid America Nazarene University, but also a small portion of Spring Hill Township. Being from Original Town myself, I understand the citizens of this area. My District takes in 7 of Olathe's 10 Title 1 Schools. Being a "free lunch kid" myself, I get it. I know what it means to struggle. I feel as though I am the best candidate to represent "my people" because I have lived it myself. Every vote I take in Topeka is for the people of House District 15. I have spent my life building relationships in order to help people get what they need by listening to understand and utilizing the resources around me to find a solution
Healthcare - which includes mental and reproductive health is possibly the most important issue. Expanding Medicaid will greatly benefit the people of Kansas. Affordable Housing is an urgent need for Kansans. The property tax reduction we provided in Special Session is only the beginning of the tax relief homeowners need. We also need additional housing in the starter home price range. As a Realtor I know the market and there simply aren't enough homes to go around. Education - Kansas has met the minimum requirement by law for the last several years. However, Special Education Funding is far behind. Again, this last year we were able to get some funding for Special Education but it is far from the actual funding needed.
I would like to eliminate the Gut and Go. I would also like to stop the bundling of bills and allow each bill to stand on it's own merit for a vote. Some very good bills do not pass because they are bundled with terrible bills. If a bill is terrible - it should not pass. If it is wonderful - it should pass. Not be bundled together to make them palatable.
The only thing I would like to see in regards to voting laws is to make it easier to vote. I would like 18 year olds to be automatically registered to vote. I would like Same Day Registration. I would like to see ballots provided in more languages. I would like every possible day of early voting to be available across the state with evening and weekend hours. I appreciate the lengths that have been taken in Johnson County to enable/encourage voting and I wish the rest of the state could do that as well.
