La Grande City Council Position 2

Four forms of city government determine the administrative role of any city council. Most Oregon cities with populations over 2,500 have the council/manager or council/administrator form, in which the council hires a chief executive officer to be responsible for the daily supervision of city affairs. Portland has a commission form of government, where the elected commissioners function collectively as the city council and serve as administrators of city departments. Smaller Oregon cities typically have the mayor/council form, in which the legislative and policy-making body is a popularly elected council. An elective city officer shall be a qualified elector under the state constitution and shall have resided in the city during the 12 months immediately before being elected or appointed to the office. In this subsection "city" means area inside the city limits at the time of the election or appointment. In addition, a councilor shall have resided in the ward the councilor represents during the 12 months immediately before being elected or appointed to the office. Please see City Charter

Term 4 year
Through my years of serving in the communities in which I have lived, listening is one of the most important skills that I have learned and will bring it to the city council. I also want to emphasize the importance of transparency because La Grande residents have a right to know what is being discussed and voted upon by the city council. I want to make sure that financial allocations are used properly and efficiently. I also want to remove restrictions that hinder business growth in La Grande.
- Transparency of council discussions & votes. - Safer roads throughout the year. - Economic & business development. - Protecting private property rights. - Promoting affordable housing. - Supporting the La Grande Police Department's activity in combating drug trafficking. - Establishment of a nonprofit family education center like OMSI, to provide families with unique recreational opportunities. - Working creatively to make La Grande a successful travel destination.
We currently have a warming station to provide a roof for homeless residents, but I would like to see the churches and volunteer groups in our community become more involved. For instance, residents at Grande Ronde Retirement made fleece blankets for the warming station. I believe that other groups would be willing to help if asked.
