Biographical Information

Utah continues to be one of only 11 states with no limit on the amount of money an individual can contribute to a political campaign, and one of only 5 states with no limits on what a corporation can contribute. Do you favor any limits on donations to political campaigns? Why or why not?

What is the legislature’s role in addressing the homeless problem and assuring affordable housing for the working poor?

Not all school districts are able to provide the same resources for their students. How should we support school districts with lesser ability (primarily because of lower property values) to raise revenue?

The Utah State Constitution reads, in part, "Both male and female citizens of this State shall enjoy equally all civil, political and religious rights and privileges." The Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads, “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” Should Utah ratify the ERA which expresses the same view as the Utah Constitution? Explain your position.

I am fine with any proposed legislation for such limits, but I do not believe this would be effective in it's purpose, because anybody wanting to donate over the limit has multiple routes to still accomplish this. In the 39 states that do limit the amount of money, individuals still donate more than the limit by simply rerouting the money through different Super-PAC's or multiple corporations.
I believe the legislature absolutely needs to regard the importance of maintaining affordable housing for all, I see too many instances where local and state-wide politicians are not only missing this, but they themselves come from the real estate market where they were financially benefiting from a hyper-inflated housing market, disregarding the suffering (and I do mean suffering) the lower-income families and individuals are going through to try to obtain affordable housing. I want to be a part of that change in local and statewide politics that works toward affordable housing for all, and bringing the impossible dream of owning your own home back into a reality.
As it stands, some counties are richer than others, and therefore some School Districts have more revenue than others. However I don't want to say that I want to push towards a condition where if one School District is living in excess then all School Districts should be living in excess, what I want is for no School District to be lacking in their needs to insure an educated population that is capable of pursuing their ambitions in life to the best of their ability if they strive to do so. I don't believe you need to be educated in a spoiled-rich school district in order to obtain everything you want in life.
The current wording of the Utah Constitution has never caused anyone harm, because when this was written it was believed to be encompassing of all individuals, however ratifying the ERA will maintain the same intentions of the Utah Constitution so I do not see any harm in doing such. However I believe in power over the people and would most like this matter to be placed to the popular vote so the citizens of Utah can decide on this directly.
