County Curry
Term 4 years
1. The County needs to find a stable source of revenue. 2. The County has a lot of properties that are in need of major cleanup and repair and we need to move forward to alleviate these problems. 3. Affordable, accessible, and quality health care is needed in Curry County. Many individuals leave our County each year because they are unable to get the services they need. 4. The County is need of affordable housing for working families.
I have participated on numerous budget committees looking for ways to be more efficient in the use of tax dollars. There are two essential words when looking at budgets: wants and needs. When money is tight, the "wants" need to be put on the back burner. Budgeting for replacement of equipment and technology is necessary so that "surprise" expenses and inefficiencies don't arise. It is also important to build a contingency fund into any budget. Unexpected "emergencies" will always come up.
I am currently an active member of various boards that work in several Counties. These boards include: Allcare Advisory Board; Border Coast Regional Airport Authority; Coos Curry Hazardous Waste Council; South Coast Business Employment Corp. and Curry Public Transit. All of these boards involve working working with other counties to help Curry citizens get needed resources and services.
